- Elora
Our surrounding was eerie, the thick fog forms around us. Our backs pinned together looking out for any incoming attacks.
"Mom I know you want me to just walk away from this life that we live but our family have been doing this for centuries, why would you want me to break the lineage because time is modernizing."
I load my gun while looking for someone or something to emerge, I push mom out the way when I saw something moving above us.
"Duck!" I said when I point the gun at her head.
She moves out the way, I sent the vampire flying with my rifle. Mom grabs her machete and finishes the job.
"Elora, I want you to leave this life behind, you may not get it right now but having a choice with how you want to live your life is such a luxury and it was one I never had and you don't want it?!" She uses the back of her had and wipe the blood that splattered on her face.
She walks over and grab me by the shoulder, and grabs the gun from my back holster. Aiming it at a vampire that launched itself in the air and in my blind spot. Sending the vampire flying across the cool grass.
"You have so much potential, I want you to make the life you want not something that is forced on our blood line, this life is a curse," she detaches the axe that's attached to her back she flung it killing three vampires with one move.
"Go mom," I pull my gun from my boot and shot it at the vampire approaching me.
"It's starting to get late, today is your first day of university are you excited?" I check the time to see it was 6:25.
"Its school why would I be excited?" I put my gun back in its holster, "I know you didn't get the opportunity to go but doesn't mean I want it."
"Elora, you graduated as valedictorian, you graduated top of everything," she places her hand on my shoulders. "You got you dad's looks but you definitely got my brains."
"Hey!" My dad's voice echoed through our ear piece, "that's rude."
"Well did I lie?" We started in the direction of the black mini bus hiding in the shadows.
"But doesn't it beg you guys wonder why there has been an influx of vampires all of a sudden?"
Grabbing the gasoline I started to pour it over the dead bodies of the vampires, while mom followed behind lighting them.
"You think there's more to it as well?" She asks pausing as the ashes of the vamp floats in the air.
"Definitely, something or someone is making these vampires feel they can come back we need to find out why and put an end to it."
"I'm ready to take lead on this," mom snaps her head in my direction.
"No, you're going to school, your brothers, dad and I will figure this out and we will keep you in the loop," I was about to cut her off, "do I make myself clear or do I have to repeat myself?"
"I understand."
I know all my mom wants for me is the best, but this is what I'm good at. Everyone in my family believes that our last name is a curse. The Elwich name was forced on us during slavery, slaves were forced to hunt monsters. After slavery some decided they wanted to leave this life behind meanwhile there was some that wanted to milk the government for everything they had to offer. Personally I think it's reparations, with a catch of course.
My great-great grandfather and the others decided to create a private sector one that was off the grid and cannot be found on the map. Of course there are agents all over the world, in different positions getting intel to keep our family and others 10 steps ahead.
