He was the only one close enough. It had been a while since they had seen the missing engine and from what he could see, the engine's pilot was also there. A deep fog settled throughout him as his programming took over. His main goal was to get the stolen engine, no matter the cost. He allowed his arms to move on their own and watched as his ship got closer to the large hunk of space trash.
A large thunk rang throughout the ship, alerting him that he had landed. He released his hold on the steering mechanism and made his way to where the bottom hatch had already opened. He stared down at the metal below him and quickly heated his claws to blast his way through.
He entered the poorly made ship and was greeted by blaring sirens and flashing lights. It was some sort of alert system. Farther into the ship he could make out higher pitched noises coming from the inhabitants of the ship. He knew at least a few of them would try to stop him from getting the engine, it was just in their nature, but that wouldn't stop him from getting to what belonged to them.
He stormed through the ship, his footsteps clanging loudly on the ship's metal floor. He turned a corner and was met by a couple of the ship's inhabitants. Each of them started running as soon as they saw him. Most ran away from him but a couple foolishly decided to try to stop him. None of this mattered to him as each would meet the same fate.
Power seared through him as he blasted heated energy at anything living. Most shots hit the target, but a few were a bit off and either missed altogether or only grazed his target. He continued to make his way forward towards the center of the ship, towards the engine. It was a long process but he slowly exterminated those who got in his way.
His chest filled with energy signaling the activation of an engine. It was not his engine activating though, it was the other engine, the one he had to retrieve. Energy zinged through him alerting him to the opening of a wormhole. He quickly turned around to get back to his ship in hopes of chasing the larger ship down. As he reached the hole below his ship he was greeted by the feeling of getting sucked into a wormhole. He managed to latch his claws around the bottom of his ship before his ship was ripped off the larger hunk of metal.
He felt himself being ripped through space before the feeling of gravity pulled down on him. Flashes of green flashed through his vision and he knew he was being sucked into a planet's gravitational pull. It was not the ideal situation.
He felt his claws slip from the ship. He clenched the metal as hard as he could but it was no use. The ground was getting closer by the second and he knew that no matter what he was going to be severely damaged by the fall. The last thing that went through his mind was that Leader wouldn't be that pleased with him for failing to get the engine back. It was only seconds later that his body crashed into a tree, ripping him in half.
Though he may have only been metal and wires, he could still feel some semblance of pain. He felt it in both halves, the tingling of the wires wanting to merge back together but not quite close enough to truly reach out for each other.
He looked around at his surroundings in an attempt to distract himself from his missing half. He seemed to be in a tree that was surrounded by other trees. Though the trees were unfamiliar, the layout of the trees seemed to remind him of something.
A light snapping of some twigs alerted him to another presence. He couldn't see what it was but it seemed to be living, probably one of the other ship's inhabitants. It wasn't long before he heard another snap, this one quite a bit louder then the previous one. It must have been his bottom half.
He continued to listen for more sounds. He soon heard the living being quickly approaching his location. He watched as the being made its way to the bottom of his tree and climbed up onto the branch he was on. He then watched as his legs tried to follow the being up the tree only to slide back down.
He felt his wires stretch towards each other. As he looked around once again he noticed that the forest had changed to a bright orange color, signaling fire. His wires were now tingling harshly as they desperately stretched to reach each other.
He decided to ignore his wires for the moment in favor of studying the living organism in front of him. He quickly realized that it had been getting closer to his top half in an attempt to avoid his bottom half. He instinctively reached forward intending to slice the being's neck but his arms felt weak, his energy running low. He ended up scratching the being's arm, alerting it to his presence. It gasped and scrambled back, away from him.
The being stared at him for a while before it looked down at his bottom half. It looked back up at him once more.
"You're dying, aren't you?" it said.
His wires flared once more as they reached out. The wiring in his head felt fuzzy at the amount of stimulation his wires were giving off. He looked down at his bottom half not quite expecting to see the fire quite so close. This was dangerous and it sucked that there wasn't anything he could do about it. He turned his head back towards the being who had taken a thin metal wire out of one of his pockets.
"Well, there's really not much point in both of us dying," it said, using the wire to saw away at the tree.
He watched as the being worked and he felt the branch dip under his weight. It wasn't long before the branch snapped and he fell to the ground. He was overwhelmed by the feeling of his wires connecting to each other after that short time being severed. It took him a little bit before he could sense anything again.
The first thing he sensed was the fire all around him. Next was the quick breathing of the organism up in the tree. Every piece of code within him said to leave it and continue his search to find the engine, but something stopped him. It was something that he hadn't felt in a long time. Something in him said to protect the organism, the boy.
He stood and leaped into the tree they had been in. The boy backed away from him, in fear, before letting him pick the boy up. He leaped off the tree and carried the boy away from the burning forest. Once out of the forest he set the boy down. The boy looked up at him with wide eyes.
"Hey! You saved me! Thanks," the boy said. "I'm Will Robinson, by the way."
He looked down at the boy, slowly registering what had been said.
"Will, Robinson," He repeated.
"Yeah! Now come on, I need to get back to my family," Will Robinson said.
