Annabeth was a clever girl. She read the most of anyone in her class, had the highest grades, and was undoubtably one of the brightest girls to have ever entered her elementary school.

But there was a price to pay with intelligence.

"Fredrick, I understand that you love your daughter, but good heavens! Look at her—screaming bloody murder in the middle of the night, only for it to be a prank, ignoring my sons, trying to hit me with a book! Honey, I love you, and I've tried to like your daughter but good heavens, at least try and do something about her behavior, because I can't take it anymore."

"Helen, please lower your voice, she'll hear you! Dear, I understand it's been difficult, but she's just in her adjustment period! She's never had a proper maternal figure in her life, and is still learning how to treat you properly—"

"That doesn't give her an excuse to run about like a demon and screech like a banshee! If you don't start checking your daughter Frederick, so help me I will!"

Annabeth was an intelligent, intuitive, and terribly observant girl.

And because of that, she was leaving.

That ended up being both the best and worse decision she ever made.
