Jonathan Byers x Fem!Reader

Jonathan sighed as the phone rang again. Hurrying to get to it he hoped they'd stay on long enough. It stopped ringing as he grabbed it from the cradle. "Hello? Is someone there?"

"(Y/N)?" Jonathan's stomach twisted. The sheer fear in your tone made panic brush over his body and raise goosebumps.

"The. The lights are flickering and I hear noises." You whispered out.

"What? (Y/N) are you ok?" Jonathan's eyes started to water when he heard a whimper and the phone dropped, banging against the wall. "WILL! I'm going out i'll be back in a minute."

Will only just had enough time to poke his head out of his room and see Jonathan shoot past the hallway and out of the door.

He got into his car and pulled out of the drive so quickly that the wheels screeched. When he got to your house he found the door unlocked. One of the lights in the hallway blinked overhead, throwing misshapen shadows across the house.

"(Y/N)?" He called out. Searching for you he found you under the stairs. Your head hidden by your knees and your hands over your ears as you cried and curled up. "It's ok it's just the light."

He couldn't get you to say anything but he pulled off his jacket and put it over your head, pulling you out of the cupboard and taking you to his car. He drove home slowly and led you into the Byers house.

"I heard something. A bang." You insisted. Jonathan nodded sympathetically. He was sure it was just an animal or maybe something had fallen over. He wasn't going to say that though. He put his stereo on and let you get into his bed. He sang a long, off tune on purpose. You looked exhausted and he wondered how many nights you'd been dealing with your panic. Clearly a while as your eyes fell shut halfway into the second song. He felt himself falling asleep too.

"Boys?" Joyce called as she came inside. She frowned when Will shot up the hall.

"Jonathan and (Y/N) have been in his room listening to loud music for ages." Will snitched immediately. She frowned at him, he didn't normally have an issue with you and Jonthan and it wasn't the first time you'd stayed at the Byers' house.

"Ok?" Joyce said, slightly confused by the way Will was hopping from one foot to the other.

"Something was really wrong! He rushed off to get her hours ago." Will grabbed her hand and pulled her to Jonathan's door. With a sigh she knocked on the door.

"Jonathan?" She asked. Once she was sure nothing was going on she slowly opened the door. Jonathan pulled his head up off the pillow next to you.

"Mom?" He asked.

"Hey are you ok?" She asked.

"Yeah. I just. (Y/N)'s parents went out of town. Some family emergency and I think all of the upside-down stuff had been bothering them." Jonathan explained what little he'd managed to get out of you between naps. "I don't think (Y/N)'s been sleeping well."

"Oh. Well. I'll get Will to order some take out and I'll pick up some of (Y/N)'s things from her house. She can stay here with us. I'll call her parents once she's awake to give me the number." Joyce said with an affectionate smile.

"Thanks mom." Jonathan said quietly.

"No problem. I'll swing by Hoppers and see if he can check (Y/N)'s house." She smiled and left the two of you as Will peeked in. Jonathan gave him a thumbs up and he smiled, looking a little less worried.

"Are you sure there isn't a monster at her house?" Will asked quietly.

"Will!" Jonathan hissed as he pulled his duvet higher over your head. "Don't say something like that! What if she hears! You'll worry her even more."

"Sorry! Sorry. I'll go to order the pizza." Will said as he hurried off and stopped to get his radio from his room and fill the others in on his suspicion that there was something hiding in your house.

You woke up to the smell of pizza and found Jonathan reading a book next to you on his bed. "Hungry?" He asked. You followed him to the living room. Mike and Dustin were with Will watching cartoons, each with a plate and a slice of pizza. Lucas was in the kitchen carefully pouring a massive bottle of soda while El held the cup steady.

"Sure. Look I'm sure it's nothing and Sheriff Hopper is checking it out now. But (Y/N) can stay with us as long as you need." Joyce said into the phone. She nodded and hummed as if she was agreeing with something.

"(Y/N). Your Mom is on the phone." She said with a smile and held out the phone to you. "You're ok?" She asked as you approached her.

"Better. Thanks." You said with a smile and she nodded.

"Good." She squeezed your shoulder as she handed over the phone.

"Hi Mom... no I'm good Jonathan rushed to the rescue." You said as you heard your mother's frantic panic on the other end of the line.
