Jennifer's POV:

I walk into my and April's apartment, laying my key in the bowl we specifically have for keys, when the phone rings. I rush over to answer in case it's April's boss, April herself, or one of the guys. We've gotten pretty close within the last six years. They always walk me home through the sewers, Splinter's become the father figure I've missed, and they let me begin training with them just last year. My signature weapon is the naginata.

Me: "O'Neil residence."

Mikey: "Surf's up, dudette!"

Me: "Hey, Mikey! Sorry I couldn't come over tonight."

Mikey: "No worries. We just kicked some serious bad guy shell! This group of costumed creeps mugged-"

Leo: "Mikey, let her find out later."

Me: "Leo, what's going on?"

Leo: *sighs* "Your sister April got mugged, Raph lost his sai, and I'm guessing she's headed home with it right now."

Me: "Don't worry, Leo. If I can act like mutant ninja turtles don't exist, I can certainly act surprised. Sorry about Raph, though. Is he there?"

Leo: "Nah, he went out to a movie. He'll be back later."

Suddenly, I hear the front doorknob jiggle from April's key.

Me: "She's here. Sorry, guys, I gotta go. See you tomorrow, right?"

Leo: "See you then."

I hang up the phone right as April walks in, a bruise forming on the side of her forehead. Time to act surprised.

Me: "April, what happened? Where did you get that bruise?"

Too much?

April: "It's nothing. I just took a wrong turn and found this weird sword thing on the side of the road."

I guess not. She reaches into her purse, and pulls out Raph's sai.

April: "I know you've gotten into ninja stuff recently, so I thought you'd know what this is."

Me: "Yeah, it's a sai. It's generally meant for a fierce and fearless warrior, who will always fight the hardest for their family."

Which, if you know him like I do, suits Raph to a 'T'.

April: "Sounds like it was meant for you."

Not really, but it means I can give it to Raph tomorrow.

Me: "Thanks, April. So, how early do you think Charles and Danny will be coming over?"

April: "Ha, who knows? Why, are you looking forward to seeing Danny?"

Me: "Please, he's more like a brother than anything else."

April: "Jenny, you're 15. You're free to make your own choices."

Me: "Exactly. Which is why I choose to see Danny as a brother, and a friend. No more, no less."

April: "Fine. But mark my words, your best friend might just become your boyfriend."

If that were true, Danny's out for sure. We both have family who work hard and late, we both understand that it's meant to be for our sake, but he's not my best friend. I've only known him for a couple years. The turtles I've known for six, they win. But out of all of them, Raph is the one I'm closest to.
