Eliza sat on a chair, holding her 2 year old son, Philip, in her arms, feeding him. Something felt off about her. She just assumed it was a cold. She had threw up a bit earlier that day, but she didn't think anything of it. She set Philip down to play, going to find her husband. "Alexander?" she asked.
"Yes?" he replied, turning to face her. He had ink covering his hands and face from writing for so long.
Stifling a giggle, Eliza made her way over to him, sitting down near him. "How long ago was it that we..." she trailed off, blushing at the memory of it.
Confused, Alexander tilted his head. "We what?" he asked, then noticed the blush on his wife's face, and he smirked to himself. "It's been about a week or so I believe. Why?"
"I-I think I'm pregnant again..." she whispered, looking down at the floor.
"Oh my..well, that would explain the nausea you've been having," he tilted her chin up gently so she would look at him. "Why so ashamed, dear?"
"I'm not ashamed! It's just...when I was pregnant with Philip, Angelica was there with me," she replied, looking at him.
He sighed a bit. "My dear, I cannot promise having your sister by your side. But I can promise that I myself will be by your side. I'm not the same as your sister, no, but I will do everything I can do to take care of you."
She smiled, hugging him tightly. "Thank you. Would you mind writing a letter to my sisters? I'd like them to know. I'll write one to mother and daddy."
He shook his head, kissing her hand softly as she pulled away from the hug after a moment. "No. I'll write the letters. You should go break the news to Philip."
"Are you sure? I'd hate to be a bother-"
"My angel, you are never a bother to me. Now go tell Philip. I'm sure he'll love the thought of being a big brother," he smiled, before sitting back down, taking out new pieces of paper, beginning to write to Angelica and Peggy, as well as their parents.
Smiling, Eliza made her way to her son, picking him up and holding him. "Philip," she said. "How would you like to have a little sister or brother?"
Philip considered this for a moment. "I'd wike that," he said, after a long consideration. "Why?"
"Well, I think I'm pregnant," she replied, smiling. "Which means you'll have a baby sister or brother soon! Isn't that amazing?"
Giggling, Philip nodded, not quite understanding the concept of childbirth or what it meant to be pregnant. All he understood was he'd soon be a big brother, and he didn't want to wait. "I wanna meet them!" he said, jumping up and down enthusiastically.
"You'll have to wait, Philip. The baby has to grow," Eliza said calmly.
Philip pouted. "That's not fair!" he whined.
Alexander, who had decided to take a break, came downstairs. "Philip, treat your mother with respect, please. It's not easy carrying a baby, so we have to make it as easy as possible for her."
"Oh..." Philip looked at Eliza. "Sorry Mama."
She smiled, kissing his head gently. "It's okay. Now, go play," she said, smiling as Philip ran off to go play outside.
Alexander opened his mouth to say something, but what it was, Eliza never found out, because Philip was practically dragging his father outside to play with him, giving Eliza time to choose the name of the baby.
She chose Angelica, if it were to be a girl, because if she couldn't have her sister with her, she'd have her namesake around.
