Hawkins, Indiana 1986

"Get your ass up, we're going to be late for my first day of high school!" Dustin shouts, as I roll over with a groan, checking the alarm clock. 7:45.

"Shit. Shit. Shit!" I say, scrambling out of bed and pushing Dustin out before slamming the door in his face.

I changed into a long, blue dress with white polka dots and my favorite pair of white high-top converse. I grabbed my bag off my desk and ran downstairs towards the kitchen.

"Good morning. Toast?" My mother asked as I smile, but shake my head, as I grabbed the walkie-talkie off the counter.

"Earth to the Henderson's, earth to the Henderson's, let's go!" Steve shouts on the other end as I hear his car engine rev outside.

"Bye Mom, love you." Dustin and I say in sync, as I open the front door and run outside to Steve's car. "Sorry, sorry. Hi Robin!" I say, getting in the passenger seat as Dustin slides in the back next to Robin. "Hey," I say, grabbing Steve's hand and he holds mine back.

"Gross. Would you two date already?" Dustin says as Robin laughs in the back.

"They won't admit that they like each other, dingus," Robin says as I turn around and smack both of them.

"We're just friends." Steve and I say in sync, as they both roll their eyes. "Best friends since 4th grade," I say, smiling at Steve.  "And besides, we know he's in love with Jennifer Connelly," I say as I laugh and Steve shakes his head, making the whole car laugh.

We pulled up to school and hopped out of the car, Steve leaning against the car.

"Have fun at the back-to-school pep rally, kids. I'll be here to pick you up after school." Steve says with a smirk, as Robin scoffs and walks away to join the rest of the band in the gym.

"Bye, dad" Dustin says, hugging Steve, before following Robin into the gym. Steve rolls his eyes and smiles, waving to Dustin. I turned to face Steve as he was leaning against his car.

"Are you ready for Senior year?" Steve asked as I nod, grabbing my backpack out of the car. As I stand back up, Steve pulls me in for a hug. "What am I going to do all day while you're at school?" He says, looking around, before grabbing my chin and pulling me closer. He kisses me as I smile into the kiss, then quickly break it, looking around.

"Steve!" I say, lightly smacking him and pushing him off me. "Your lucky everyone's already inside the gym," I say, smiling, as he laughs and pulls me back into him. He rested his chin on my head, as I nuzzled myself more into his chest.

"Why can't we tell anyone Steph? We've been together all summer and I want to tell the world I am finally your boyfriend." He says with a smirk as I laugh.

"Soon Steve, but with all that went down this summer, we need some normalcy. I almost lost you and Robin and I don't know what I would do without you guys." I say, tears brimming my eyes. "And Dustin looks up to you so much, I need to know that this will be okay with him." I say as Steve holds me tighter.

"I love you, Steph, so much," Steve says, as I smile, holding him tight.

"I love you more, Steve Harrington."  I said before letting go and heading toward the gym.

The pep rally had already started when I finally made it into the gym. Dustin waved me over and I stood between him and Max, her giving me an awkward side hug. Summer was a lot and after losing Billy, Max and I became closer as she clung to an older figure to replace her brother. The gym was filled with loud music and the cheerleaders were doing flips and kicks as the basketball boys ran in. Cheers erupted as Max and I groaned.

"Have you talked to Lucas?" I asked, looking down at her as she rolled her eyes, a question she hoped I wouldn't ask.

"No. I think it's best we keep our distance for now." She says as I begin to protest, but I am cut off by none other than Jason Carver, the basketball team captain.

"Ladies and gentlemen, may I just say, the Hawkins Tigers are the best basketball team Indiana has ever seen?" The crowd goes nuts as Jason flashes his pearly whites. I roll my eyes again, before the band starts up and I cheer for Robin as a blush forms on her cheeks.

The pep rally finally ends and it's time for senior year. I catch up with Nancy in the hallway as we head to Yearbook.

"How was your summer?" I ask, smiling and hugging Nancy.

"So much fun, we took a much needed getaway to go visit the Byers." She says as I smirk at her.

"You mean Jonathan?" I say, as she lightly smacks me with an eye roll and I let out a short laugh. "I missed you this summer, Hawkins wasn't the same. And now we're seniors, which means preparing for college." I say, as we walk in the door to yearbook.

We talked through most of class, ignoring our work and the teacher, before the bell finally rang for lunch. We walked towards the cafeteria and were not prepared for the scene that was unfolding.

Eddie Munson, super senior, was walking along the table and taunting Jason.

"...shoot balls into laundry baskets..." he says, as I tone out the rest, and grab a tray before heading to an open table.

"And you must be Stephanie Henderson." A voice says over my shoulder as I jump slightly.
Munson.

"Why hello to you to Eddie. Back for another year of this hell hole?" I asked with a smirk, while he smiles and looks between me and my brother.

"Seems little Henderson wants to be a part of the Hellfire club & I wanted your blessing?" He says, as I choke back a laugh.

"I could care less what club my brother participates in during his free time. Just don't turn him into a super senior like you." I say with a scoff as I turn back towards my tray.

"Ballsy this year, are we?" Nancy says, as I laugh and shake my head before eating my disgusting lunch.

After school, Steve was parked in his usual spot and was leaning against the hood.

"Steve, high school is the best!" Dustin says, running towards him and into a hug. Steve rustles his hair with his hand, a smile plastered to his face.

"And how was your day, miladies?" He asks Robin and I as we both look exhausted heading towards the car.

We get inside and Steve heads towards Robin's house first.

"Bye losers, see you tomorrow. Steve if you decide to get a life and not drive us to school, let me know so I can catch the bus." She says as she gets out of the car.

"I couldn't change my morning routine if I tried. Goodnight Robin!" He says with a smile and wave, as he speeds off towards our house.

Steve rolls up to the driveway and turns to face Dustin in the back seat.

"Will you ask your mom if I can come and hang at yours for a bit?" Steve says as Dustin's smile beams as he throws the car door open and makes a beeline to the front door. "Well, that was easy." He says as he leans in to kiss me again.

I smile against his lips before pulling away.

"You know mom will never say no to seeing you." I say, as we both get out of the car. I pull Steve inside as mom comes up and hugs him.

"My favorite Harrington!" She says, as she kisses him on the cheek. I laugh as I pull him towards my room.

"We're going to study in my room." I say as Dustin scoffs.

"Yeah right, like you already have an exam the first week of school." He says, as I wink at him and pull Steve into the room.

"So, what's first, physics, math, or-" I interrupt Steve by pulling him into a kiss. He pulled me towards the bed.

"Henderson come in. Repeat Henderson come in. Something's happening at the rv park and I don't think you're going to like it." Lucas says through the radio as Steve and I pull away from each other.

"We can't catch a break in this town." Steve says as he pulls me towards the door.
