The Fire

The fire roared and crackles,

A child's cries rang through the night,

A man's voice rose above the crackling.

"Carry Sammy outside,"

"Save Sammy,"

"Always watch out for Sammy."

Fast forward now, many years,

Little Sammy's broken tears,

His racking sobs as he stood outside the ruined, flaming house,

Sammy clung to his brother's worn leather jacket, all grown up now.

As the brothers drove away in the sleek, black Chevy.

Away from Sam's new life-

His college dorm at Stanford,

And his blonde haired love fallen victim to the flames,

To pursue a life of crappy motel rooms and betrayal,

Of love and loss.
