[start chapter two]

The girls leave the boy's cabin and walk over to their identical house. There was only a slight difference between the two. That was that Chilly and Den's cabins were slightly more elevated on a hill. The girls wobbled over the gravel road into their driveway.

"We could probably finish in about 30 minutes?" Den suggests, looking back at Chilly for confirmation.
"Thirty minutes? I mean.. maybe. What if it takes longer?" Chilly asked.
"We're on vacation.. we don't need a schedule. But don't take all evening." Den said slightly confused.

With that interaction seemingly over, Den lugged her suitcase over to the door and walked inside. The interior was just the same as the other so it was already familiar. She chose the room closest to the exit. Protection was always a top priority for Den. Even in low-stress situations like a vacation she knew that the group was too chaotic for that. She was always ready to switch to defend herself at any moment.

She began to put her things into her respective drawers as well as a sharpened knife under her mattress.. just in case.
After she finished she went back into the main area of the home.

"CHILLY?" She called out into the hallway to no response. She walked down to go inspect her room to see if she had finished unpacking. She wasn't in her room, but it seemed to be almost halfway packed into her suitcase, half sprawled out on her bed.
"Oh Den! Hi!" Chilly said rounding the corner bumping into Den.
"There you are.. you about ready to go? Even if you aren't done unpacking we can always still go. Just put on your bathing suit and meet me at the guy's."
"Alright." Chilly said. "Why don't you just wait on me, I won't be long!" She said running over to dig through the array of items scattered across the bed.

In less than 10 minutes the Recreyo crew was packed into the back of Curt's car on the way to the Santa Cruz beach. They drive down a winding road that gave Ivan car sickness until they came into a clearing out of the woods. Soon after, they began to see signs of the typical tourist trap. Even a carnival.

"Aw, that looks awesome. We need to check that place out!" Christian said excitedly looking out the window.
"Agreed." Curt nodded, taking his eyes off the road to look at the giant carnival.
"Oh look the boardwalk!" Chilly said pointing, making the whole car turn their attention forward.

As the five got out of their car they walked past many families leaving the beach to go home for the night.

"We got here at just the right time." Ivan said, carrying chairs in both his arms.
"I think most people are just at the carnival at this point.. this place is very.. empty." Chilly says, surveying the beach.
They walked out closer to the water and sat their chairs down. The water reflected the sherbet sunset.

They chatted and laughed as the sky began to get darker. So dark, in fact, the only light they could see was being given off by the carnival.

"Y'know it's not like we're doing anything tonight. Why don't we check out the carnival?"
