Something Unexpected

Chapter Four

Every member of theHargreeves family is gathered in the living room. Detective Patch isalso present, who is staring daggers into Five's head as Five ignoresthe woman and instead concentrates on picking at his nails in anonchalant manner.

Finally, the tension isbroken by Detective Patch who throws the bagged butter knife onto thecoffee table in front of Five. "So, you wanna tell me what the hellhas been going on?"

Five glances at Diego,silently asking him how much he should tell the woman. Diego slightlynods, letting Five know he was good with whatever Five wanted to do.Guess everybody was turning a new leaf.

Five focuses on DetectivePatch. He grabs the bag, rips it open and pulls out the knife. Hefiddles with it before speaking. "This knife was used to kill a guywho was trying to kill me."

"So, the weapon was usedin self defense?" The detective asks.

Five scoffs and mutters ashe inspects the knife in his hands. "You could say that."

Detective Patch tilts herhead as she inspects Five. "You do know that the finger prints onthat knife match a cold case from 1938, right?"

Five looks at DetectivePatch. "Yes, I do."

The woman looks at himwith confusion. "So, how did you finger prints get into our systembefore you were even born?"

Five smirks at the womanand chuckles. He leans his elbows on his knees. "Wouldn't you liketo know?"

Luther sighs. "Five,knock it off and just tell her, for God's sake."

Five frowns at Luther andgives him a dirty look. "Spoil sport."

Five relaxes and leansback against the couch he was sitting on. "Fine. You wanna know whymy finger prints are in your damn system?" Five pauses for dramaticeffect. "Time travel." Five shrugs. "Simple as that."

"That's your superpower, right?" Detective Patch asks.

Five points the butterknife at her. "Got it in one go!"

"Dude!" Diegointerrupts. "What the hell is up with you, today?"

Five shares a look withAllison, hoping that she won't blurt out why he's in a mood, beforeturning his attention to Diego. "That's none of your business, youidiot."

All of a sudden, the phonein the entry way rings. Pogo stands up and looks at Detective Patch."Excuse me while I go get that."

Detective Patch nods andPogo exits the room.

Five turns back toDetective Patch. "How did you get access to my finger prints?"

"I gave them to her,since I knew you had been at both Griddy's and Gimble's during theshootouts." Diego answers for her.
