It was the middle of the night.
Rain pattered against the window of a dark room. Only a flickering candlelight lit up the white wallpapered room.

On a dresser were several framed photographs and there was a desk, littered with rolls of parchment, quills and inkwells.
In addition to the window in the corner, was a bed.
On it sat a figure whose face was illuminated by the light of the candle which she held in her right hand.

It was a girl.

Her long, smooth, auburn hair fell over her shoulders.
Her brown eyes darted over the pages of a book, which she held in her left hand.
The back of the book was propped against her knees.

Suddenly she was startled.
Someone had slightly opened the door to her room.

The girl quickly blew the candle off and hid the book under her blanket.

But it was already too late.

The door opened and a woman who had the same auburn hair as the girl entered the room.
In one hand she held a wooden wand, from which a bright light appeared.

"Clara, you should be asleep!"
Said the woman with a slightly menacing voice.
"I'm sorry," the girl named Clara replied in a whisper, "but I just can't fall asleep."

The woman walked over to Clara,
a worried expression on her face.
With a wave of her wand, she lifted the blanket. Among them was one, in red leather bound, book.
Its cover was decorated with a large crest.
Underneath it was written in gold letters:

The history of Hogwarts

The woman stared at the book, then she said, worried:
"Are you reading this book again? Why? And anyway, you have been acting strangely for a week now. Is something troubling you?"

"Mum ..." Clara looked at her mother gently,
"I don't want to return to Hogwarts. Last ... last two students were killed by this monster! What if it continues to murder?"

Clara's mother sighed and sat down next to her daughter on the bed.
"You're sixteen years old ... don't you think that it's time for you to act a little braver?"
"But, Mum," Clara tried to protest, but she saw that her mother was smiling.

"The teachers have confirmed that this heir of Slytherin was caught.
You have nothing to fear. And I promise you, if something horrible happens again, we'll take you home immediately."

Clara looked silently at her feet.

"Clara, the monster was after Muggle-born students. You are pureblood, what are you afraid of?"
"The boy that was killed was like me, a pureblood Hufflepuff..." Clara blinked.
Her light brown eyes held a trace of fear and horror.

Her mother ran her hand soothingly through Clara's hair.
Clara had always been too anxious and cautious for for her age.
Nevertheless, she was a clever, strong girl who remained calm in difficult situations.
"You are a true Ravenclaw," Clara's mother whispered.
"My mother said the same to me when I was your age."
"Grandmother?" Asked Clara.
"Yes," replied her mother, and pulled something from a pocket of her cloak,
"I wanted to wait until tomorrow to give you this... After all, it's your birthday..."
"Mum," Clara said,
"It's two o'clock in the morning. I'm sixteen. "
"So much the better," her mother smiled and gave her a gold bracelet, "this has been passed on in our family for generations. Always from mother to daughter ... it once belonged to Rowena Ravenclaw. You're the rightful heir, Clara.
You are a pure-blooded descendant of the wise Rowena Ravenclaw. Although pure blood is not the most important, we have preserved it... How you will decide, we can not know. But I hope that you will deliberate and act with reason."
"Thanks, Mum," whispered Clara and tried on the bracelet.
It fit like a glove.
Like a vine he wrapped around her arm, in the midst a beautiful, purple-colored stone was embedded.
The girl looked closely at her gift.
Suddenly she discovered a fine engraving.

In squiggly writing stood there:

F. m. l. R. R.

"What do the letters mean?" The girl asked her mother.
She thought for a while, then she said:
"So far nobody has yet figured out the secret of the mysterious letters.
Only Rowena Ravenclaw knew what they mean... But my mother said that the two R's probably stand for Rowena Ravenclaw. The rest are a riddle."
