Circa 1000 B.C.
A young man was resting under a tree after a day's work herding goats. His rusty-colored hair had a few dried leaves from the tree he was under.
Maya was a couple of years younger than Halsim. Her eyes were always smiling every time she fetched Halsim from the field. Her silver hair was always braided then spun into a bun on top of her head.
The two walked towards the village to gather for their diner. In their village, everyone gathers to eat. It was like having a feast every night. That was their way of life. Everyone had an assigned task so that the village would prosper.
Halsim took care of the goats. Maya is one of the young ladies who did the daily cooking of all the meals. Everyone had a specific task; farmers, washers, hunters, warriors, fishermen, scouts, even traders.
That night was a special night.
The villagers cheered.
The festivities continued with dancing and singing around the village fire.
Halsim was again sitting under a tree, as he watched everyone dancing. He looked at Maya as though he'd never see her again. Like a habit, he stood up, patted some dust off, and walked to the field where he was earlier.
He stood looking at the field that was bathed under the brightness of the moon. It wasn't as green as it was under the sunlight, but it was beautiful nonetheless.
Slowly, he was surrounded by small globes of light the he thought were fireflies. The globes of light grew in numbers until he was fully engulfed and was temporarily blinded. Then he vanished.
As his sight slowly returned, he heard cheers around him. The blurry view came into focus. He was atop a pyramid, surrounded by hooded figures.
