A Gary x Rory fanfic because I am hopeless

(Btw this fanfic is accorded to my own headcanons sorry-)

Gary was in xir Gadget Room, building stuff like xe usually do, when someone knocked on xir door.

"I am coming !" He said as he got up from his seat and headed to the door.

He opened it to see Aunt Arctic, a smile on her face, holding an envelop.

(For Smash ?)

No.

"Good evening, Director ! May I do something for you ?" asked the Gadget Guy.

"Oh, no need to call me Director when we are out of work, Gary !" answered the reporter with a chuckle.

"Work is never done for me ! Anyway, did you want to ask me something ?"

"You got a letter at your igloo, but since you barely spend time in there, I decided to bring it to you !" said Aunt Arctic with a slight enthusiasm.

"Why thanks you !"

Aunt Arctic handed the letter to Gary and Gary grabbed it.

"May I...?" asked Gary while showing the letter.

"Of course !"

Gary opened the enveloppe...

It was from xir other best friend Rory !
Gary's smile grew bigger. When was the last time they talked together ?
Anyway, xe started to read the letter :

"Hey Gary ! What's up ?

Since we both got caught by our works and barely got the time to take some news, I thought it would be cool to go drink a coffee or something ? My treat !

Call me when you made your decision !

See ya later, Science boy !

-Your old pal Rory."

Gary bit his lip when he read "Science boy". It was an old nickname Rory gave him in highschool. He knew it was a friend nickname... but he couldn't help but blush a little.

"So... are you planning on joining him ?" asked Aunt Arctic with a smirk.

Gary got caught by surprise by this question.

"I...I wish I could but..."

Gary looked down.

"What about..."

The green penguin rose her flippers.

"Do not worry dear. We will handle the Gadget Room and the missions. You have always worked so hard for the EPF and I think you deserve a break."

The blue penguin's face brightened at those words and xe had to restrain xemself from jumping in joy.

"Thanks you Aunt Arctic ! Oh, I really wonder what Rory has been up to !"

"Me as well, dear." answered Aunt Arctic with a smile.

The next friday night, Gary was on his way to the Coffee Shop.

The wind was light and soft. A little cold, but just enough to refresh the scientist's feathers. As always, even thought it was almost night, every penguin was having fun and the island looked so alive.

When he called Rory, the handyman told him he could wear his usual clothes, but Gary still took the time to look more... fancy. He really wanted to look good to see his friend.
