The trio had arrived back at the guild hall several days ago, having collected their reward from a gracious jeweler.
"Gray, Erza, have you seen Natsu around lately?" Lucy asked her fellow teammates. She hadn't seen the pink haired dragon slayer for days.
"No," Gray answered, "Come to think of it, I don't think anyone has seen him around lately," he frowned.
Erza looked worried. "I think he's holed himself up in his house ever since you guys got back from that job up in the mountains."
"We should check on him; Natsu might be sick or he might've picked up another strange animal like Kemokemo, and you know how well that went."
Lucy suggested.
"Fine then, let's go, but hopefully this won't take to long. Juvia and I are going to be visiting to this new restaurant across town later, and I don't want to be late," Gray grumbled his face turning a noticeable shade of pink.
"Natsu?" Lucy tentatively opened the door to Natsu and Happy's little cottage. She was surprised to see the two huddled around a little table mumbling in concentration.
Natsu, hearing Lucy's voice jumped up in surprise, his face turning redder than Erza's hair. "L-L-Lucy?!" he yelled. "What are you doing here? G-get out! I'm working on something and I don't want anyone to see it yet! Especially you!"
Lucy backed out of the way, his words like a knife to the heart. "O-okay, fine then! I'll leave you alone, jeez Natsu, you didn't have to be so rude!" she yelled, her heart pounding.
Gray popped his head through the door, "Natsu it's just us, it's not like we've ever had to hide anything from eachother."
"GRAY?! WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE ICE PRINCESS?" Natsu's clenched fists burst into flame. "Just leave! I'm busy, right Happy?"
"Aye!" The little blue cat flew next to Natsu, considerably blocking the view into the cottage even more.
But Lucy was still able to catch a glint of silver on the table where Natsu and Happy were working. "Wha-"
Erza materialized behind Gray and Lucy, causing them all to yelp. "If Natsu wants some privacy then that's what we'll give him."
Natsu visibly relaxed. "Thank you Erza. And if you guys don't mind, I have to get back to work," and he slowly closed the door.
Natsu's being really weird, Lucy thought as they walked slowly down the hill back to the guild hall.
