Character 1 always carries round a small box, they've never opened it Infront of their partner (character 2).
Character 2 finds themselves sneaking into the drawer where they found character 1's secret box. They opened it half-expecting a sort of life changing surprise inside, it ends up being a pile of photos from their past dates together.
