In a world where harmonious people lived, much has changed. Just a few months ago, people were struggling to make a living for themselves. Then came that unexpected news, which made life much more difficult for them to live.
Population control.
"We regret to inform the people of this country that starting today, all things that are related to the medical industry will vanish." - Presidential Spokesperson Anthony Villanueva on Thursday, February 22, 2035.
Eight months ago, the administration announced that the world's population had surpassed the critical level and was already unsustainable. And to aid this complication, the only thing that they could think of was to deteriorate medical services, which wasn't a good idea for humanity because it resulted in catastrophic implications for them.
They made it illegal for anything related to the medical industry to exist.
"Therefore, those who refuse to obey this law will be held accountable." He added.
Former medical professionals who are afraid of repercussions have no choice but to quit their positions.
Another factor that has made survival difficult is a lack of pharmaceutical supplies. The worst part is that the number of deaths each day has now doubled compared to before, which is their (government's) objective.
A world where harmonious people once lived has now become a storage of violence, hatred, and a suffocating environment.
"This is now a world where giving a cure is committing a crime.' What? Nagsusulat ka pa rin ng ganitong mga article? Hindi ka ba natatakot na ipa-track ka nila at hulihin?" After seeing a glimpse of what Revees was typing on his laptop, Leo sat on a couch in front of the latter's desk and poured out a drink from the nearby table.
"I'm a freelance writer, Leo, and I'm being paid for this." Revees replied. "Besides, it's never a crime. Kung oo, e'di sana nakukulong ako everytime I posted something like this?" He closed his laptop and joined Leo for a tea.
"Pero sana pinipili mo rin 'yung mga sinusulat mo. It's risky." He faced Revees and crossed his arms, indicating that he disagreed with his friend's choice.
Revees stared in a stump and sighed. "Come on, man. Ilang beses na natin 'tong napag-usapan, oh." Sa kaloob-looban ni Revees ay gusto niya rin ang mga ganitong paksa dahil malakas ang kanyang paninindigan at sense of justice. He would rather be the voice of those who can't speak than be the thread that sews their mouth closed.
"Fine, fine. Whatever." Leo took a sip, then handed the papers to his friend saying, "Anyway, I came to give these to you."
"What are those?" Revees stares in confusion.
"Commissions. Tingnan mo."
"Ano? 'Di ba sabi ko last time na I won't accept any commission 'til the end of the month? Ang dami ko pang susulatin." He checked the papers in haste and put them back on the table. "These are too many, and too boring."
Leo raised an eyebrow at him, seeking transparency. "Ang sabi mo, you'll accept three to five commissions, so I did what you asked. I already sorted out the emails for you, so you won't have trouble choosing."
"Oh, sinabi ko talaga 'yon? I don't seem to remember.."
"Perhaps you need to get a check up, which I believe is impossible given the current situation." Leo laughed a bit with what he said referring to the law implemented with regard to medical services.
"Oh, come on. Not a good joke. Anyway, inform them that I will going to cancel these projects."
"You're what-?" Leo let out a deep breath and stood up, placing his hands on his hips. "Pinaghirapan kong kunin 'tong mga bigating projects and you're telling me to turn them down? Like they're nothing? Siraulo ka, p'wede bang suntukin kita sa mukha? Halika rito." He adjusted his sleeve and is about to hit the latter, who is in panic mode.
