"I swear to it, it was them!"

Your voice was slightly shaken, but you had kept your composure. Adrian had intently listened to each of your words, indulging himself in your story.

"So you think you saw Elizabeth's killer at the market today...? That's what you scurried off?"

"Yes, precisely."

The sun had begun to sink below the earth, the sky painted with rays of orange and pink. The last glow of day shadowed the trees and turned your skin to bronze as the two of you stepped along the cobblestone road. It was a quiet evening, but light clouds had started to scatter the sky, and if you didn't get home quickly, it would rain soon.

"I don't suppose you got any more detail of their appearance...?"

"Unfortunately all I have is they're most certainly not a girl, unless they're disguised."

"That cuts out half of the people! See, that was helpful!"

You chuckled at his dry humor. The Undertaker smiled at your laugh, glancing down at you.

Your giggles didn't last long before they faded into another realm, your eyes dancing off with them.

"We'll find him, don't worry."

You knew that wasn't certain. With the vagueness of his appearance and the lack of evidence, you knew it was unlike they'd find him. But you decided to keep your words to yourself.

"I hope so. It would bring some closure."

Adrian nodded, but there was a look across his face that made you a tad bit concerned.

"Are you alright...?"

"Yes, of course, My Fair Lady. But... when this is all over... what will happen of us?"

You blinked.

You hadn't thought much about it.

You hadn't even glanced at the idea of Adrian not being there anymore. It didn't seem real. You had grown to care for him, very deeply, in such a way that you questioned your true feelings for him. It wasn't possible for you to not have him around, was it?

"It won't end. Our acquaintanceship. It won't end. That's a promise."

The mortician smiled again at that.

"That's good, very good. That leads me to my next subject."

"Yes...?"

"Lady ______, I have began to think about you mo-"

Boom.

Thunder rolled through the sky, along with streaks of lightening. A light rain had soon began to fall, which quickly turned into much more of a shower.

You quickly began to gather the skirts of your dress, fearing the idea of ruining the lace. Adrian had decided to give you his much-too-tall hat to cover your hair, promptly placing it atop your head. You blinked, looking up at him.
He just continued to smile, shrugging.

"Your hair is much more worthy than mine."

Though you entirely disagreed. His hair was a silvery mop of silky beauty. It was enviable.
