Things finally started to calm down three months after the wedding. The moment everyone went separate ways life suddenly became mundane. It was like everything was always this way; Working, chatting occasionally over text. The boys had all gone off on their own endeavors; Kenma with his new software developing job; Bokuto, Osamu, and Atsumu had been mindlessly running their businesses; Tsukishima keeping himself incredibly busy at the museum; Hinata and Oikawa were traveling in preparation for the upcoming Volleyball season. Even (Y/N) had dedicated her recent time to working on her career.
She had luckily landed a spot doing a paid internship with a major company and its associated law firm. On most days it was easy to work; Filing paperwork, reading over tax files, and learning about contracts. While it wasn't anything overly impressive, it gave her experience and a paycheck every other Friday. It also gave her the chance to leave early on Wednesdays, meaning she had three hours to wander around the city before Sugawara got home.
Wednesdays were her favorite for many reasons. The corner grocery store put their wine on sale every Wednesday; Onigiri Miya offered her discounts on all leftovers, and every Wednesday Sugawara came home eager to see his girlfriend lounging on the couch waiting for his arrival.
"They're not here?" (Y/N) asked the cashier as he handed her the bag of warm Onigiri.
He shook his head solemnly as he waited for the receipt to spill from the machine. "They're out furniture shopping," he added with a sigh.
(Y/N) chuckled at the thought of Osamu and Atsumu wandering around the rug section of the large furniture store downtown. Reaching into her purse she pulled out a ten-dollar bill and dropped it in the tip jar; She felt extra generous on Wednesdays. Bidding the cashier goodbye she began her walk back to the apartment with a slap-happy smile. It was fall and although there were more skyscrapers than trees in the city, the cool air brought the feeling of autumn to their doorstep.
(Y/N)'s fingers were cold and her knuckles were white as she lugged the bags of groceries and dinner down the street. She let out a soft sigh as she stared up the winding staircase toward her and Sugawara's third-floor apartment. Why can't they put an elevator in this joint? She mumbled in her head as she began her descent up the stairs. By the time she reached the third floor her face was flushed and she started thinking about whether or not she had asthma.
"Tofu," (Y/N) called out as the large white cat lingering on their couch perked his ears up.
The fat cat had become hers after a night of drinking at a bar downtown. As she and Sugawara made their drunk journey back to their apartment the sound of meowing echoed from an alleyway. Without much hesitation (Y/N) scooped the smelly animal up and asked her other half what to name; to Which he drunkenly replied "Spicy Mapo Tofu." Whether he was just pleading with her to go get food, or genuinely wished for that to become the animals' name, it had been called Tofu ever since.
"You smell like tuna," (Y/N) winced as the cat hopped on the counter and nuzzled its face against hers.
"I hope you're not talking about me," Sugawara's voice rang out.
The clattering of groceries on the counter silenced the door opening. Startled (Y/N) swiveled on her heel and looked her boyfriend up and down. "Dang it, I didn't even hear you come in," she frowned, disappointed she didn't get to surprise him like usual.
"You're here before me every Wednesday," Sugawara stated, kicking off his shoes. "I'd be more surprised if you weren't home early," he added with a chuckle.
