The next day, the sun was shining but the wind blew strongly against the trees.
"Sunny England(!)" I muttered quietly to myself, whilst rolling my eyes. I felt my back painful from all the running and my throat sore from the crying, therefore, I decided to get some hot chocolate to warm up my icy cold body. As I left my bed, I realised that my hands had bruises and were extremely painful from picking up the glass on the floor as well as banging it against the banister upstairs.
I decided to tidy up my room to get my mind of things, starting off with tidying up my bed and putting my clothes away. However, once I had done that, there wasn't much left to do and I lay there bored, reading peoples' news feeds on facebook to check what they'd been up to during the weekends and their holidays, but nothing interesting came up.
That's when my phone started ringing. I quickly answered it, saying "This is Rosie, how can I help you?",but to my surprise heard nothing but a faint whisper of my name. After about 5 more seconds, the phone went dead and I decided that they'd probably dialled the wrong number and as soon as they realised, they hung up. I tried to ignore the fact that someone had called me but I was so alone that I wanted to find out who it was. The phone number was Crystal's, but I don't get how that could have happened, since she was in a different world. I tried calling her phone again but all I could hear was the same voice saying my name, slightly louder. I called her about 5 more times but she didn't pick up. I knew I shouldn't have called the number back or checked my phone, but I let my curiosity get the best of me. What if it was Derek or Ashley? I couldn't not have picked up the phone!
The very thought that Crystal could communicate with me from another dimention sent shivers down my spine, and made me have a sudden urge to call Derek and tell him all about it. I trusted him, and knew he wouldn't make fun of me for telling him these things.
The phone rung about 5 or 6 times until I heard a tired Derek answer it with a slight moan.
"Hello?" Derek spoke with a morning voice.
"Hey, it’s me." I replied with a slightly serious tone, but trying to mask it as happy.
"Hey, Rosie! How are you? Are you feeling better, babe?" He asked, seriously trying to sound more interested in my reply, which he probably wasn't, or if he was, he was too tired to take anything serious in.
I didn't want to lie and tell him that everything was alright and that I'd completely forgotten about everything that had happened the night before and that I was happy now and couldn't care less, but I didn't want to tell him that I was depressed and wanted to sacrifice myself to save my friends Ruby and Crystal from a different dimension and Mary's filthy hands so I tried the in-between choice.
"Yeah, I feel better than yesterday. What about you, did you have a good night's sleep?" I asked, trying to sound more cheerful.
"Erm, yeah! Everything's fine here, I had a good rest. " Derek said, trying to wake himself up.
"Cool! Are you free today? Something happened and I really need someone to talk to!" I sounded quite needy, but I really was and to be fair I didn't care because he made me happy and that's all that mattered to me at the moment.
"Sorry, no. My family just got back from France, and they want to spend some time together since I haven’t seen them in a while." He replied using his saddest tone of voice possible.
"Oh, okay." I spoke, trying to sound extremely disappointed down the other side of the phone.
"Maybe some other time? What about tomorrow first thing in the morning?" His voice sounded hopeful and also exciting, and it made me extremely happy.
"Sure, I guess. Cool, I'll see you then." I smiled, as I put the phone down.
Since I didn't have Derek to talk to I had to call Ashley, even though she was the last person I wanted to talk to as she was also the creepiest as well.
I took my phone from my pocket and gazed at it for a while, contemplating whether or not I should call her, then I decided it was best if I did. I slowly scrolled through my contacts reading each name out loud.
"Amy, Anna, Annie, Adrianna, Anastasia, Ashley(call her Adam for short)..." I paused and took a deep breath, then grasping my phone in my hand, I clicked the call button. The phone rung 2 times before anyone picked up, but when it said that the line was connected, the other side had fallen silent, with only faint whispers, saying Derek's name.
"Hello?" I waited for a response, but nothing. A little bit worried, I tried again "Hello? Adam, are you there? Adam?"
I waited for about 30 more seconds of silence, and then decided it was best to hang up.
I had no one. All my closest friends were gone, Derek couldn't see me and Ashley wouldn't pick up. So I sighed, lay back down on my bed and napped there for another 2 hours.
When I woke up, it was sunny and birds were tweeting away happy tunes outside.
"I love how the weather's so unpredictable..." I quietly muttered to myself.
I didn’t want him to think I depended on him to anything so I snatched the book from my bedside table and begun to read in to Pazuzu’s mythology and why he would randomly appear in front of me when Mary left. Why would his face and story be written in microscopic letters in an ancient book? Why was it him who showed up? I had to find that out.
I flicked through pages until the sticky noted page revealed itself. It revealed that he was the king of the demons of the wind. He represented the southwestern wind, the bearer of storms and drought. He was also the son of Hanbi, but very little is known about him. I sighed not knowing what any of this meant and decided to listen to some happy music in order to put myself in a good mood.
After listening to some well deserved music, I heard a loud bang downstairs that sounded way too familiar to a gun shot. Crying soon followed it and a voice begged to be left alone. I rushed downstairs into the kitchen, to find my mum had been shot on her right arm and my dad with a petrified expression spread across his face. He was holding a rifle.
“Stop!” I screamed.
