Nanami decided to stay with Emily, getting used to being used by her. She was more than happy that he decided to stay, it was her way of fun. It wasn't about love for her, it was about money and fun.
Still, he let her meet his parents. His mother loved Emily to heart, like she was her own daughter. But Nanami's father felt something was off with her.
Nanami ignored his fathers suspicion, as he did anything for her. He quit his job as an ice skater and started doing office work at a company to gain money. He started drifting away from people as his work took up much time, this meant loss of contact with Gojo. He deleted social media for her benefit and had her look through his phone daily. The only one "by his side" being Emily. He moved to another bigger city with her so she could be happy.
All of this just for Emily to be happy. And for what he got back? Rape disguised as sex.
As Nanami thought they were finally getting closer, Emily cut the tie and left after a year long relationship, leaving all the time, work and effort for nothing.
Nanami sunk into a deep depression, as he felt he didn't have anything else, anyone else. He still had to work and that drained energy from him, having no time for himself. All his pain led to drinking, bottles and bottles of alcohol on his floor as he tried to ease the pain only to have it come back worse.
After getting fired for "lack of effort" he used the money he had and moved back to the city he used to live in. He got a job at a smaller company, working hard for low income.
