"So where the fuck are we supposed to go now!" Tyler yelled. "Well if you hadn't been so fucking stupid to go down there by yourself in the first place we wouldn't be in this situation right now would we!" Nial snapped back. "That's enough!" Adria hollered. "Now you boys just need to breathe for two seconds, do you think you can do that?" She said as she turned back around in her seat. The boys all sighed.
"Now my dad has an off-grind shack in Oregon that we will stay at until the coast clears up a bit." She said. "Yeah and then what?" Nial questioned. "We'll decide that when the time comes." She responded. "So we're just playing a big old fucking guessing game!?" Tyler said aggressively. She whipped her head to look back at him. "Do you have any better ideas like I don't know staying on the run and having a bigger risk of getting caught along the way?" She said scornfully. Tyler looked down. "No, I do not." He said as he started scuffing his feet on the car floor.
"Look this is the best chance we've got. No one lives near the shack and we can live off of the grid. You might not like it but it's our best shot at the moment." She said as she turned back around in her seat. The boys looked at each other. Nial looked at Adria. "Fine, this will do for now but we have to start thinking of our next move." He said. "We'll figure that out when we get closer to the shack. Right now you guys need some food." She said. "There's a filling station just a couple of miles up the road, I can stop in a grab some food for you guys to eat. I'll park behind the filling station so no one can see you. I just need you guys to lay down and be quiet." He said.
Adria looked at her dad. "We can do that don't you worry." Nial looked over at Layne. "Since when did you just decide that going with her was a good option?" He whispered. "It was our quickest way out like she said we didn't have any other good ideas. We can try this for a bit but if anything seems off or goes wrong we go back to the old ways and go on the run." He whispered back. Nial looked out the window while the trees passed his eyes. What better options do we have? We can't just be on the run forever, we'll eventually get tired and get caught. Like Layne said we can try this for now but as soon as anything feels off we'll bolt..... He thought.
Was this going to be the rest of their lives running away from something they can't even remember what they're getting punished for? What could've gone so badly wrong for their lives to be this miserable? "We're almost there so please lay down and be quiet. I should only take a few minutes." Adria's father said. They all laid down and were quiet as he pulled into the back of the fill-up station. He quickly got out of his car and went into the fill-up station. They heard lots of cars out front. Lots of people walking in and out of the fill-up station.
They then heard footsteps from outside of the car. "Don't move." Whispered Adria. They all stayed still with their eyes closed looking like they were asleep from the outside view. They then could see shadows of someone moving around the car as if they were looking inside of it. "Hey what are you doing?" Adria's father asked the man peeking into his car. "I was just checking on your car. Nobody ever parks back here so I figured I would take a peek." The man said. "Well those are my children and they are asleep. I'm leaving now so you can step away from my car." He said as he started to move towards the man.
"What are you going to do about it if I don't." Said the man as he started to walk towards Adria's dad. "What's going on?" Nial whispered. "I don't know but I have a feeling it's not good. Just keep quiet." Whispered Adria. "I said leave my kids alone." Said Adria's dad. The man lunges at Adria's dad and pushes him to the ground. He then proceeds to pull a knife out of his pocket. "What the fuck are you going to do now?!" He yelled. "What the fuck?" Nial said as he leaped up. He notices that Adria's dad is now on the ground. He quickly got out of the car. The man turned around. "What the fuck do you think you're doing little boy." The man said as he hastily turned around to look at Nial.
