Perfect Smile

Kai's POV:

I'm trying to head out to the lab today early to get some extra work done, it's been kinda hard to focus with Dr. Shepherd around... I can only think about how perfect she is. The way her hair falls around her face, her little nose scrunch when she's excited, how calming her touch is.

"Good morning Dr. Bartley" I hear as the door opens and then shuts. I feel my heart start to flutter, her energy brightens my mood and I can't help but let off a soft smile.

"Good morning to you too, Dr. Shepherd" I say looking up into her beautiful blue eyes. She comes up next to me to see what I'm working on, I can't help but notice her subtle shift in movement every couple of seconds, it's like she's anxious or nervous...

"What are you working on?" She asks.

"Oh, um, I'm just trying to figure out better ways to get the cells to stay cold to help improve our viability percentage for FDA approval. I'm thinking a thermal insulation device for the needle will help but I'm trying to find ways to keep the needle tip cold." I say as I go back to looking at the computer and scrolling through research. I turn back to look at her for any thoughts, but all I can notice is her eyes slowly going down my body and returning up to meet mine. I can't help but blush. We stare into each other's eyes for what feels like hours, just admiring each other's presence.

"So um, when is your flight home?" I ask her as we snap back to reality.

"4 days from now" she responds with the cutest smile on her face. My eyes quickly glance at her lips and i didn't even realize

"Up here please" I hear her say sarcastically.

"Oh, um, uhh," I stutter to get out as I feel my face flush and turn bright red, "I was wondering if you wanted to go grab some food and maybe go to a show later?" I blurt out. Oh Kai Bartley what have you done, I don't even know if she likes me... but I just can't help it.

I feel my eyes wander down to her lips as she begins to reply.

"Only if I get to pick the music in the car." She says as her lips start to form a smile. I catch myself staring at her the rest of the time we're working.

It's later in the work day. I haven't really accomplished much since I asked amelia on a date tonight. I get up and start packing my stuff to head out.

"I thought you never left the lab" Amelia says looking at me.

"Well, Shepherd, I have a very important evening tonight with a very important someone," I say pausing as I look into her eyes, "I have to look the part. I'll pick you up at 6:30?" I can't help but smile. I can see her cheeks start to burn red, she looks down with a soft smile and back up again until we're making eye contact.

"I will see you at 6:30 then." She says, I give one last smile as I walk out the door.
