Summery: You've always enjoyed being friends with Finney Blake, what you didn't know was that it would hurt so much seeing him with Donna.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Finney and I have been friends for years, over time I grew fond of him. The past week I hadn't been at school due to a cold, but now I'm feelings healthy enough to go back.Walking down the hallway to my science class, I had spotted Robin who is one of my close friends walking out of the washroom.
"Hey Robin!" I greeted, giving him a gentle smile.
"Hey Y/N, did you see the fight I did this morning? I beat the shit outta Moose." Robin responses as he checks out his newly cleaned knuckles.
"Ah, no I didn't. I wish I did, I accidentally slept in." I never really slept in, only on days where I really needed it.
"Damn, Finney and I are going to see "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" this weekend, wanna join?" I looked at Robin and nodded before telling him that I "better get to class".
Entering the classroom silently, the teacher ignored me as I entered. I went to go sit by Finney, but I had noticed Donna beside him. Finney looks at me giving a small smile, then proceeding to look back down at his book. He ignored that I was here. My eyes wandered around the classroom for an empty seat.
Once the teacher had finished explaining the parts of the Earth, he told us to find partners. I looked at Finney to see if he wanted to join me, him and I were always partners but I see him slightly smiling at Donna as she invited him to be partners. I expected him to politely decline, but he just nodded leaving me partnerless. The kid beside me asks if I wanted to be partners, and I agreed.
It wasn't long before my thoughts were interrupted by Donnas giggling. Now don't get me wrong, she's nice and all but that "giggle" was giving "pick me" vibes. I turned around to see them, and I notice how Donna was ending over him trying to grab something... his rocket. Finney never lets anyone touch is rocket, except for Robin. The way she just grabbed it pissed me off.
"It's so cute!" Donna exclaimed, acting as if it was a puppy. Rolling my eyes I turn back around with a scowl. I continued my work, slightly listening in on their conversation.
"Y-yeah," Finney had stuttered, "I enjoy astrology and stuff...". Oh? So now he's making small talk with her?! It took my nearly a week to get him to have a full conversation to me.
At the end of the period, I heard Donna ask for Finneys number. I didn't bother to witness him give it to her, I rushed out of the school.
"Hey Y/N." a voice greeted me from behind, I turned around and saw Robin.
"Oh, hey." I smiled, walking home. Robin and I live near eachother, so I usually walked him home. I was paranoid something would happen, the man everyone called "The Grabber" only abducted boys, mainly 12-16 year olds. Both Robin and Finney fit that criteria, but Finney has Gwen to walk him home... same with Donna. The name "Donna" gives me a bitter taste.
"What's wrong? Your browns only furrow when somethings bugging you." I looked up at Robin, biting my cheek. I trust Robin not to tell anyone, but it would make things more complicated.
"Finney was sitting with Donna in science, he also ditched me to be her partner.... She also asked for his number." I responded looking forward.
"Do you like Finney?" He asked, turning his head to me.
"Yeah, I think I do." I responded, finally looking at him. His eyebrows were raised, as if he was surprised about this. My eyes began to water a little, so I looked away.
"So you're gonna let her have him?"
Once I had gotten home, I went straight to my room and sat on the end of the bed. I just stared at my floor, Robins question floating through my head. "So you're gonna let her have him?".
If he likes Donna, then he can't help it. Multiple tears began to fall down my face, creating streaks that looked like multiple rivers. 'It's only puppy love', I thought to myself. Eventually I gave up holding it in, and bursted out crying. I laying down on my pillow, I could feeling the aching pain in my chest begin to grow."Why not me?" I asked no one in particular...
Days went on like this, everything was about Donna. The weekend was coming soon, I was dreading about going to the movies, I thought about ditching but this meant a lot to Robin.
As I entered the classroom, I noticed that Donna was sitting with her friends leaving Finney alone. I didn't both sitting near him, no way was I going to be a second choice or a back up. Finney looked up at me, his eyes shinning as it reflected the light. I could tell he was expecting for me to sit near him, but I didn't. All class I could feel his eyes on me, which I simply ignored.
"Why are you ignoring me?" A voice asked me as I was about to exit the class, I knew it was Finneys. He was always quiet, and soft spoken.
"Sorry?" I asked, confused.
"Y-you didn't sit beside me." He responded, clearly all of his confidence disappeared.
"I'm not ignoring you Finn... usually you sit with Donna." I responded before continuing to walk.
"She wasn't today." He said, rushing up behind me.
"You made your choice as of who's your partner. You chose her, I'm not being a second choice for when your little girlfriend ditches you." I say, going to my locker.
"Girlfriend?" He asked, I looked at him and nodded. "What do you mean 'girlfriend'?".
"Ever since I've came back, it's been her. You chose her over me all week, I'm assuming you were with her while I was sick."
"Why does it matter? She was with her friends today," he looked down, "you aren't a second choice. I didn't know if you were coming to school."
"When don't I come? I'm always here, I've always been there with you. Just leave me alone!" I slammed my locker shut.
"I'm sorry."
Did I regret walking off? Yes. Should I accept his apology? No. He can suck it up like how I have been doing.
"Y/N".
"Finney." I responded, as I stopped walking.
"You being upset is damaging our friendship." He responded as he stood beside me, fidgeting.
"Maybe I don't want to be friends." Panic struck his face.
"What?"
"I wanna be Donna. I like you a lot, I don't want to just be a friend. And if I'm only a friend to you, then I need time to be alone. I'm sure we'll figure it out at some point." I responded, starting to walk as he stood there, tears stinging my eyes. 'Was that a good idea?' I wondered... probably not.
"I like you too!" Finney yelled at me, making me spin around.
"Real funny Finney, I bet Donna is getting a good laugh." I clenched my jaw, he can't trick me. I know he's into Donna...
"I actually like you, I was with Donna to try and get confidence into talking to you more. Like a lot more." He began to walk to me. I let out a deep breath, it's not like Finney to be rude, which helps me decide that he clearly means it.
"You gave her your number..." I responded quietly, hugging myself.
"I never gave it to her," he responded, "I told her I like you". Both of us stood in silence for a good few minutes.
"Can I hug you?" I asked, Finney wasn't the one to like physical touch, because of his dad. He smiled and nodded at me. I wrapped my arms around him, "you aren't allowed to sit with her in science, I don't care if you see her outside of school though."
