(Y/N)'s POV
It's been a couple of days since I've joined Shepard and her cause to stop the Collectors from invading any more colonies across the galaxy, and things haven't really been what I was hoping for. I mean, I figured the crew members from Cerberus aren't going to be the same as the Alliance, especially with what Cerberus is known for, but while most of them criticized me for being friends with Garrus, they make fun of me for my character...you know, the shyness. They would often taunt me with overcrowding me to make me feel uncomfortable or use my personality as a way to make it look like a bad thing and affect my performance, which rarely happened but they still did it.
At least some of them were friendly with me or at least on good terms. Obviously, there was Garrus and Shepard, who have been there for me since the beginning. Thane was pretty comforting to be around, Samara was kind enough to let me be around her when she meditates and take the time to teach me about Asari Justicars, and a few others that joined were pretty nice...well, maybe some exceptions like Jack but maybe I just need to get more used to her. But there is always that one person that seem to not like the idea of you being on the team. Yes, I am talking about Shepard's second-in-command, Miranda Lawson. My resume apparently didn't match what I really am so I am hoping to prove to her that I am a good soldier and that I can make a great asset to the team. I will also prove that just because I am a person that is socially awkward, doesn't mean I can't be of any help on the battlefield.
I am currently in the crew quarters, where a lot of the crew except for Miranda and Shepard sleep, laying on the bottom bunk of one of the beds and look up at the bottom of the top bunk bored out of my mind. I haven't done much missions since I got here so I have no idea on how to pass time, especially since the others are not in the mood to talk and want to be alone. Then the intercom turns on. "(Y/N), Commander Shepard would like to see you in the briefing room." EDI tells me before it shuts off. I wonder what she needs from me. I'm pretty sure I did nothing wrong so maybe she needs for an assignment. If it's true, it's about time that I get to do something.
I take the elevator up a floor to go to the command deck and is met with Kelly Chambers. "Hey there, (Y/N)." She says with a smile. I walk out of the elevator and smile softly. "H-Hi. How are you doing?" I ask. "Oh, I'm fine. Just looking out for some emails for the Commander and checking up on our crew. The usual." She says. I nod. "Well, speaking of which, she needs me so I can't stay to chat." I say. She nods and smiles softly. "Of course, (Y/N). Whenever you're finished, come by and talk with me. I can give you some assistance with your social skills." She says. I smile softly and rub my arm. "T-That would be great. Thank you, Kelly." I say. She nods. "You're welcome, (Y/N). Well, you don't want to keep the Commander waiting." She tells me before turning around to look over at her station. I turn around as well so I can go through the doors that will take me to the briefing room.
I walk inside to see not just Shepard but Miranda as well. I hope nothing bad happened that involved me, considering Miranda sees nothing about me impressive. Shepard looks at me. "Ah, good. You're here now." She says before putting her hands on the table and a holographic image EDI put up of a planet. "We have an important mission we need to take care of." Shepard started, "We are currently making way for the Fathar System to get to the planet Lorek." I tilt my head and look at the image then to Shepard. "What happened that made your attention get directed to that planet?" I ask. Then Miranda looks at me with her arms crossed. "If you must know, we believe that one of our operatives is being held in a base by Eclipse mercenaries. We received a message from Cerberus Command and they let us know about their disappearance, so we are going to investigate and rescue the operative." She says. I scratch my head and look at Miranda then to Shepard. "So, this is where you want me to participate?" I ask. Shepard nods. "Yes. But it was actually Miranda who suggested to bring you with us." Shepard tells me. I raise an eyebrow and look back at Miranda. "Y-You ask for me? W-Why?" I ask her, feeling confused. Miranda places her hand on hips and look at me. "Well, I think I have to see what you are capable of in combat. I really want to believe that Shepard has a good reason to bring you in but you can't even manage to hold a conversation with anyone." She says rather bluntly. Ouch...hurtful but truthful. It's not my fault I ended up that way but I do want to work on it. But even so, this shouldn't mean anything about my place here on the Normandy. Miranda really doesn't know it but I could do more than she thinks. I look at Shepard and see that she wanted to say something. But I decide to show Miranda what I could do. "You're right. I am that kind of person that isn't used to people a lot. But I can prove to you that I can do a lot that you don't know." I say, trying to sound confident but it probably sounded weird. Shepard looks at me a little surprised that I stood up for myself. Miranda smirks and let out quick scoff. "We'll see about that." Miranda says before walking away. "I will see you both at the shuttle." She leaves the room before giving one more look at me as the door closes on her.
