Eleanor lent backwards on her pillow, a book open in her lap, yet she had not even glanced at it. A million things were going through her head, she was not able to focus on any of the words. First there was the manner of Norrington proposing to her, then of course Elizabeth's death-defying fall, and then the appearance and miraculous escape of Captain Jack Sparrow – at least until he was caught again. Eleanor's passion about pirates started to rekindle that night as she continued thinking about how Captain Jack Sparrow was hardly a normal pirate. Could they all be that bad?
Mary tucked a bed warmer between her sheets and smiled up at Eleanor, "I hear that it has been an eventful day for you, miss."
Eleanor nodded, "I knew that the Commodore was going to propose...but I don't know if I want to be tied down to someone yet. I want to be free."
"But what about that pirate that threatened you and Miss Elizabeth? That would have been frightening," Mary said.
"Yes, I suppose, it was rather terrifying."
"But the Commodore proposing, that is quite remarkable. He's a fine man, miss. How honoured I would be if someone like him made an offer to me," Mary blushed.
Eleanor's lips quirked, "And find someone you will."
Mary smiled at her, "Thank you, miss."
She sighed, "As for me – " there was a horrible bang. "What on earth was that?" Eleanor scrambled out of her sheets and crossed towards the window with Mary. She peaked out and saw a fire burning down at the Port. "Cannon fire!"
"Miss, look!" Mary said, pointing towards the manor's gates. "They're breaking in!"
Sure enough, the gates were thrown open and a horrible ensemble of scraggly men – who Eleanor recognised as the pirates from her stories – ran up the driveway. Eleanor scrambled backwards, "Quick, Mary, we must hide!" Eleanor looked around before her hand flew towards her mouth. "Elizabeth! I must get Elizabeth!"
"But miss, they could be inside now!"
"We'd have heard them if – "There was a horrible thump downstairs and the sound of a gunshot. "Alright, they're inside." Eleanor ran towards her door, "Mary hide, climb out the window g and get help."
"What about you, miss?" Mary was pale and her hands were shaking. "They'll be after you. You're the Governor's daughter!"
"Then I must find Elizabeth before they can take her away too." She didn't say anything else before opening the door and running out into the hallway. There was shouting and sounds of crashing furniture from the ground floor. Eleanor ran towards Elizabeth's bedroom, opening it to find she was not inside. "Elizabeth!" she hissed. There was no answer. There was a scream from down the hall and Eleanor raced back out...only to be face to face with a man with dreadlocks and a wicked grin.
"Hello, missy," he growled.
Eleanor screamed, scrambling back into Elizabeth's bedroom. She looked around frantically for anywhere for her to hide. She ran towards Elizabeth's balcony, throwing open the doors. She put her leg over the balustrade to the balcony – which was hard when you were wearing a dress – and tried to swing her body over the edge. The door burst open and the ghastly pirate stepped into the room. He sneered at Eleanor, noticing what she was trying to do. Eleanor gave a small gasp before hurrying to climb down. The pirate rushed towards the edge, just managing to grab onto Eleanor's hand. That caused Eleanor's grip on the balustrade to falter and her feet to slip out from beneath her. "Let go you disgusting pig!" She hissed towards the pirate. The pirate grinned at her before doing as she asked. Eleanor instantly regretted it as she fell from the edge of the balcony and into a hedge of roses with a horrible thud. Eleanor shouted out in pain. The pirate jumped down from the balcony, landing beside her with a smirk.
He advanced on her, and it was then she noticed a gleaming sword strapped to his waist. Was he going to kill her?! She tried to struggle away from him but was far too slow. He grabbed her arm and started to drag her out of the bushes and down the lawn. Eleanor screamed and struggled against him, kicking and punching the pirate wherever she could. "I wouldn't do that, missy," he growled. He shoved her hard against the lawn before sitting down on top of her. Eleanor's eyes widened as he leant down towards her face. His breath stunk of stale rum, "Where's the medallion?!"
Eleanor gasped, "I don't know what you mean – "
"Don't lie to me, little missy, I know you have it!" the pirate yelled. He shook her roughly by the shoulders. "WHERE IS IT?!"
Eleanor shook her head, "I don't have a medallion!" She tried to make herself look extremely scared, which wasn't hard, at the same time worrying about Elizabeth. Elizabeth had the medallion these pirates were searching for...hopefully she was safe somewhere.
Then she heard the laughter and the shouts from the other pirates. "Parlay she wanted parlay!"
"Back to the ship! Back to the ship!"
Eleanor turned her head to the side just in time to see a group of pirates leading Elizabeth out of the door. "ELIZABETH!" she screamed.
"Shut it!" the pirate shouted, before clubbing her in the head with his fist, then Eleanor's world turned black and she saw nothing but darkness.
