SEVEN : The King Is The Most Vulnerable Though

Kim Taehyung's heart feels like it's being ripped out of his chest when he opens the folder, flips through it, and reads the words:

Divorce Settlement of Kim Taehyung & Kim Seokjin

    They're finally doing it.

    Basically ending their story.

He looks down at the documents and fountain pen with watery eyes, not looking up at Jin's lawyer yapping about his absent husband's demands.

"Mr. Kim, as I've mentioned, this agreement is beneficial for the bo-"

"I'm not signing that," Taehyung interrupts in his deep, low voice, "I'm not fucking signing that."

Atty. Baek, his personal lawyer, whispers to him in a rush. "Sir, please carefully consider this. If you contest the divorc-"

"I told you I'm not going to fucking sign anything!"

"A contested divorce can take anywhere between six months to a year depending on the clients. You and Mr. Kim are high profile businessmen and are famous on your own rights. This would be a long process of legal matters and media circus, Sir," Atty. Lee reminds him.

"Then start the ball rolling, I don't fucking care. I. Will. Not. Sign. Those. Papers."

"Mr. Kim... Sir. Why prolong this one? Why are you doing this? Your husband is finally giving you your freedom back. You can now continue to do what you're doing, this time as a single man, so I suggest you sign the papers and just let my client go. From what I'm seeing, there's nothing left that you could fight for."

"I love my husband. I will not let him go!" Taehyung shouts, his hands balled into fists.

How dare he to tell him what to do?

Atty. Lee smirks annoyingly. "Then why cheat?"

"Atty. Lee, let me talk to my client in private first," Atty. Baek intervenes.

"Sure, Atty. Baek. I'll take my leave. Please excuse me."

He has never stopped loving Kim Seokjin.

    Then why cheat?

Mr. Lee's question hangs in the air since he left the place.

Why did he fucking cheat on the man whom he has professed his loyalty and love for?

"You chose to cheat on your husband, son. What do you want us to do? Jin's parents want the divorce to be processed as soon as possible," his eomma has said softly.

"But I love him so much, eomma," he sobbed hard.

"Taehyung-ah, what you did... that's the worst thing you could ever do to someone you say you love."

    "I... k-know..."

"You claim you love Jin so much, and yet you still cheated on him. All those months, you came home to him without any remorse or guilt in your heart about what you've done. You have looked him in the eye and told him you love him in all those months you looked into another man's eyes. You came home to Jin who has tried to keep your marriage together for months while you were busy keeping secrets. You came home to Jin who already knew half of what you did," his eomma briefly stopped, wiping a tear that ran down her cheek, "Tell me, son, when you have kissed another man's lips, have you tasted Jin's tears staining your lips?"

Taehyung just continues to cry hard, no words could be let out of his mouth except for his anguish and remorse.

"Imagine if Jin does even only half of the things that you did to another man when you stepped outside of your marria-"

Taehyung shook his head repeatedly, "I... c-can't... I can't. Eomma, s- stop saying non- nonsense, pl-please..."

"My words are harsh, Taehyungie. But I'm your mother, which I believe I failed to be one, and it's my responsibility to help you and make you realize that your selfishness has brought an end to your happy marriage with someone whose heart was yours to have and to hold."

"No, eomma... You haven't failed as a mother to me and Joonie hyung, but I know I failed you as your son and I failed as a husband to Jin..."

    He's crying again.

    He's selfish.

He's the lowest, worst kind of man who broke Kim Seokjin's heart.

    Then why cheat?

"I just need you to need me, Jinnie..." he whispers, his heart speaking, "I want you to need me."

Pity the King who sacrifices his Queen and then mourns the loss of his kingdom, because without the Queen, the King is the most vulnerable.
