You paced around the living room. It had been about fifteen minutes since Sans had left, but it felt much longer than that. You hoped everything was fine.
"It has to be, right? It's just a bank, and he's just Sans! He can't even be bothered to wear anything else other than his signature clothes! It's fine, he's fine. Calm down, take a step back and breathe."
Sitting down on the couch, you closed your eyes and started doing some breathing exercises. You were blowing this way out of proportion.
The clock tick-tocked away, the minutes passing by until finally, you heard your doorbell ring. You rushed towards the door, and opened it. There he stood, in all his glory.
You were smiling, but it dropped once you saw a familiar object in his hand. "It... didn't work, did it?" He shook his head. "sorry pal, they told me that since yer name was on this, all the info they had was yours."
Your anxiety flared up again, you asked if he told them that it couldn't have been yours, since you never requested one.
"yeah, they found it puzzlin' to say the least. they did tell me it would be fine if ya just transferred the money to yer real account. why don't we do that, and then get to the other thing?"
Sighing, you grabbed your phone. You tried, that was all that mattered.
Phone in hand, you sat down on the couch again with Sans next to you. You opened your mobile banking app and started up the sequence for a transfer. Once it asked which accounts you wanted to transfer to and from, you begrudgingly looked at the information on the back of the damned black card.
Seeing your name made you shiver, stress flared up but you continued. The app eventually opened up the account and the amount of money made you involuntarily scream.
Sans flinched next you, and your phone was dropped on the couch in favor of holding your mouth closed.
A couple seconds passed, and you spoke again. "Sorry! But, can you blame me!?" It was an astonishing amount for you. It's not like you were poor or anything, you were easily mid-class and had enough in savings should there be any problems but...
"Dude, just look at it." You held up your phone to show him. "It actually scares me."
Sans looked at you and then back at your phone, he was sweating. Good to know you weren't the only one.
"yeah, hehe... that sure is more coin than i would know what to do with."
How was this guy so calm?? You knew he had a problem with apathy years ago, but still! "Sans, it really is! This is half a million we're talking about!? I-my brain can't compute right now. Wouldn't someone become suspicious? How the fuck would I explain away that kind of money??"
Sans grabbed your phone from you, probably hoping that if you couldn't see it, you wouldn't think about it as much. It didn't work, but it's the thought that counts.
"ya don't have to, the bank already cleared it since they saw it, too. ya don't have to worry about this anymore, plus it's free money, why pass it up?"
You smiled. "I guess you of all people would want to make money without doing anything, huh?"
He shrugged. "eurovereactin', i just don't got the energy to work. Besides, isn't that what we all want?"
"I love how you flex your intelligence with puns sometimes, not gonna lie, it's hot."
Magic rushed to his skull and started to colour it a soft blue, it was cute.
"heheheh... thanks, pal." He tried to hide inside his hoodie, you didn't let him. He never took compliments very well, but you knew he needed the confidence boost sometimes. Sans may look self-assured most of the time, you knew the opposite was true.
"You are smart, dude. You know the human body like the back of your hand, not to mention the skeleton! You could probably give a lecture about it in your sleep! And don't think I don't know how good you are at math! You helped me figure out the best way to spend without a calculator, and you were right! You also love astronomy, and it shows. You're more than the funny bone man, Sans."
You could honestly call him 'Sans the blueberry' now, you wanted to laugh, but this was important.
"heh. well, come on. it's about time you transfer that money, we gotta do somethin' about those noises don't we?"
You let it go for now, he was right. Quickly depositing the five hundred thousand, again what the fuck, you stood up.
You got your essentials, put on a jacket of your own and took Sans' hand. "You know where the police station is?" He grinned with his eyes closed. "yep, we can take shortcut."
You closed your eyes, you didn't want to try opening them. The space-time continuum sounded interesting, but you didn't want to cause any problems. What if seeing broke your mind or something?
Your friend snickered. "here we go."
You felt constricted for all of one second, the pressure gone before you could really register it. You opened your eyes and felt yourself breathe again.
"Man, even after all these years, that place still feels so... oppressive."
Sans was right there with you. "i get why, ya haven't been able to deal with the pressure lately."
You hit him on the shoulder for that one. "Hey! No making fun of my misery!" Together you entered the police station. "Come on, let's hope the cops will even try to do anything about this."
Regular citizens wanted nothing to do with the mob, the unspoken rule was that as long as you ignored the happenings in the shadows, you would be ignored as well. You would understand if the cops felt the same way.
Sans reassured you they would handle it, you wondered when he got so positive.
You made your way to the front desk, where a deer in uniform was answering a call next to a worried looking lady.
"Look, Lori, you know I can't do anything about that! I'm sorry but-" They noticed you and your companion, they had a grave expression. "I... I'm going to have to call you back. I'll see you later." She hung up and addressed you.
"Hello, how may I help you two today?"
Sans leaned on the counter, partially blocking your view. "we just have some noise complaints to make, my best bud here," He mentioned towards you. "has somethin' to get offa their chest."
You took the lead. "Yes, so, lately I've been hearing lots of shouting outside, it makes it hard to sleep. Sometimes I hear things about a contract, or uh... something to do with debts."
The deer looked terrified, the lady had stopped doing whatever she was doing and was listening in on the conversation. You get that it was interesting, but still.
"Oh! I-I'm so sorry!" She looked to your right for a moment. "We'll do our best to get to the bottom of this! I-if you could just give me your address, please?" You were not expecting this development, you didn't think this would be solved this quickly.
It was... suspicious.
"Uh... okay?" That didn't mean you weren't going to accept the help. "Here you go, and here's my number, if it ever becomes necessary or something. Thank you."
The deer seemed relieved for some reason. "Of course, please rest assured, we will do our best."
Well, it seemed the matter was as solved as can be for now, you thanked them once more and left with Sans in tow.
You just barely heard the lady say something to them.
"-ou mean 'Do our best'?"
