Been a while, I know. Life's been kicking my ass lately, which has kind of put my blog to a screeching halt....Until today.
So I'm gonna come clean, I've been a little hesitant about watching the second part of this unaired episode. Why? Well, while South Park has often treated dark matters with respect in episodes past, but with this? I'm not so sure. Luckily for you guys, I've gathered up every bit of courage I had in me to watch the episode and type about it for all of you to read. So let's dive in, shall we?
I was originally expecting one of those generic "Previously on ____" intros, but it instead cut to what appeared to be a diner where a few of the moms were apparently meeting up. Those present were Sheila Broflovski, Liane Cartman, and Sharon Marsh. Their conversation started off with catching up on how their kids have been doing amongst other things, but after a few minutes, the subject shifted to the previous scene we left off on. "Did you see how the Mayor reacted during the funeral a few days ago?" Sheila started. "Yes. Poor woman must be absolutely heartbroken." Sharon replied. Liane wanted to answer, but didn't really know how considering that she's been a single parent for most of Cartman's life. "Well I wouldn't have just run away like that. It was TOTALLY immature of her." Sheila protested. Sharon and Liane then exchanged a few concerned glances as their friend went on a rant about how "childish" Mayor MCDaniels reacted. I found this to be pretty low of Sheila. Sure, she's said and done pretty stupid things, even going as far as to start a war with Canada because of her own opinions on the Terrance and Phillip movie. But this was really a whole new low for her.
As Sheila continued ranting, Carol McCormick entered the diner. This took me back considering Kenny's family was of VERY low income and you wouldn't expect one of them to possibly afford going to a diner or any kind. "Oh, hey Carol!" Liane greeted from not too far away, waving her friend down. "H-Hey girls." Carol replied, taking notice of Sheila. "I guess I came here JUST IN TIME." She said sarcastically. "Yes...Um. We were talking about the Mayor, but then-" Sharon spoke before being cut off by Sheila. "Why hello, Mrs. McCormick! Its so lovely to see you here!" Shelia said, quickly changing her tone. The three moms stared awkwardly, but brushed it off. The group continued talking before one of the TVS cut to a news report about how the Mayor had not come to work in days. She had been keeping herself locked in her bedroom, trying to shut herself out from the world.
The scene quickly shifted to this current setting. Mayor McDaniels was curled up in a bunch of either dirty clothes and unkept bedsheets. She looked like she hadn't eaten or slept in days. This scene was just pure silence, probably to try to get the audience wrapped into the depressing tone, it lasted for about a minute before a loud knock followed by a series of voices came from outside. McDaniels peeked through the curtains in her bedroom and saw a bunch of news reporters waiting outside her house. She didn't want to face the citizens of South Park, not in her current state. "They...They can't see me like this? I look like someone who just stepped out of a freakshow!" The Mayor stammered. As she was about to close the curtain, a muffled voice yelled out "THERE SHE IS! HURRY UP!" Causing the crowd to run to the window. McDaniels thought she could fight it, but she had to surrender after people started banging on the window. She opened the curtains and propped the window open. "What do you bitches want?" She snarled angrily. "Mayor! Why did you run away at your OWN HUSBAND'S funeral?" A reporter said. "Was he an abusive man and you just couldn't face him one last time?" Another chimed in. "Well um...I." The mayor tried talking, but as she stuttered, we're treated to various shots of people in the crowd taking pictures of her makeup stained face. The audio went muffled before blacking out. I thought this was the end of the episode at first, but it faded to Kyle's house seconds later.
