Chapter 37

"Thalia," Rafail growled her name, taking her in his arms as he glanced at Abby's pale face. "What's wrong? Where have you been?"

Thalia sighed, rubbing a hand on his chest. "Let's take this inside," She mumbled as she eyed their surroundings anxiously. She hadn't expected Rafail to show up just as they got out of the forest, his chest heaving with worry as his eyes frantically scanned her body. Retrospectively, it made sense – he must have felt her storming emotions through their bond. It's not like she could block them from reaching him, not when they were so strong.

"Why were you out of the palace?" Rafail's grey eyes pinned her with the storm brewing in them. He was angry – rightfully so. There was a witch out there who had managed to snatch the heart of a pregnant queen and Thalia wasn't immune to an attack. But she had needed the air though, she didn't regret it.

"Please," – her eyes begged him – "let's just go inside."

Rafail simply sighed in response, picking her up as he started walking back to the palace, nodding at Abby to follow him. Thalia wrapped her arms around his neck, silently allowing him to hold her, knowing that he needed it. She wasn't a fan of the possessiveness but her mate was the freaking king – it was part of the package. Plus, he did a good job of reining it in for the most part.

They had barely taken a step, when Simon came running towards Abby, his eyes blazing as he pulled her towards him, breathing in her scent. Abby looked at Thalia and rolled her eyes, something that would've made the queen chuckle if not for the words that still rang in her ears.

Wrapping her legs around Simon's waist, Abby leaned back to fake a glare at him. "Down, boy! I'm perfectly fine. You can keep wolfing out on me only if you run back to Raf's office. I don't have time for this," She grumbled cutely, pecking his lips.

Simon grunted, his eyes turning to their normal shade of pale green as he quietly followed Raf. They were a good distance from the palace but being werewolves, it took less than five minutes to reach Raf's office. Once they were seated with their mates on their laps, Raf and Simon looked at them expectantly.

"Where's Roi?" Abby asked after pondering over her thoughts for a moment. "He should be here."

"Why?" Rafail raised a brow at her, linking Roi in the process.

"We followed Bruce," Thalia said and Raf couldn't hold back the growl that rumbled his chest.

"You did WHAT?" He sharply looked at her, his eyes flashing liquid gold as his arms tightened around her.

"Calm down," Thalia huffed.

"Don't tell me to calm down. He's a traitor, working with Elson and Sybil. You could've been spotted and then what? Do I calmly accept that I could lose both you and our boys?" His chest heaved with each word, making Thalia wince slightly.

"I was careful."

"You know that's not the problem," Rafail argued, trying to push his wolf back. "No matter how careful you are, she's thousands of years old."

"But-"

Her next word was lost between their lips when Raf suddenly kissed her, taking her by surprise before she relaxed into his touch. It was a short kiss – too short for Thalia's taste – but it did wonders to quell their temper.

"I can't lose you," Rafail whispered on her lips, leaning back just as that emerald green found his stormy grey.

"You won't," She said with conviction, just before the door was thrown open and in walked Roi and Sarin with Raina in her arms.
