Maya's POV
Today is my eighteenth birthday and under normal circumstances should be a great day. However, due to the way I grew up and the accident a year ago causing our dad to be charged with aggravated vehicular assault, rape of a child in all three degrees, sodomy and incest and me getting restitution I'm leaving the house and getting away from my childhood life. The accident, where my dad decided to get behind the wheel of his truck while drunk to follow me and run me over, caused me to lose my right leg, sprain my left ankle and wrist, break my left knee, be left with a scar from my waist to under my right armpit from my pocket knife, along with scrapes and bruises all over my body. My bike is in the trailer hooked to the back of my truck which is also filled with boxes of my things. I left my house key inside along with a letter to my mom and younger brother Mason. I get in the truck and drive away.
While I'm driving and thinking of a place to stay, I thank god that my savings account was automatically transferred to a checking along with all the money in it. I even got a debit card and a few checks to tide me over until I can find a place. All I'll have to do is change my address once I find it and order more. After about an hour of just driving around, I pull off to the side of the street and park in front of a beautiful house. I get out and walk up to the woman who's picture is on the sign.
"Hi, I'm Maya Bishop and I was wondering if I could take a look at the house."
"Nice to meet you Maya, I'm Darlene Warrick. Not to be rude, but you look awfully young to need a house like this."
"It's okay. I'm actually eighteen today. I'm on my own and want a home to maybe build a family in someday," replies Maya.
"Okay then. Let's get started."
She takes me through the entire house and backyard. I love everything about it. When I've seen the house, we go back to the kitchen and stand at the counter. She looks at her paperwork and then at me.
"So, what did you think," she asks.
"I'm gonna be real honest with you and say I wanna buy. I have a check and can write it for the full amount. If not, I can go to the bank real quick and get a cashiers check. Either way, it'll be for the entire amount."
"Wow. Okay. Well, I can take a check, but I'd need to see a bank document showing you have the necessary funds to pay the full seven hundred and forty thousand dollars."
"I actually have that right here." She hands the paperwork to her and she looks it over.
"Well, okay. I'll take this back to the office and file it with the clerk. Here are the keys, and if you have any questions or concerns between now and the time you get the paperwork back, let me know. Congratulations."
She hands her the keys, bids her a goodbye, puts a sold sticker on the sign and leaves. Maya calls all the utility companies and has everything put in her name. Then, she goes outside, backs her truck up in the driveway and brings everything inside. It takes about thirty minutes and everything is where and how she wants it.
After she gets that done, she goes back outside and unhooks the trailer from the truck. She needs furniture, so she gets in the truck and drives to Sears. Once there, she walks inside and starts with the kitchen and laundry. She finds a Kenmore Elite 73315 30.6 cubic foot fingerprint resistant Stainless Steel Smart French Door Refrigerator, then finds a Stainless Steel Kenmore 41562 6.2 cubic foot Smart Wifi w/Accela Wash to Steam Counter Depth Washer and Accela Steam Dryer. Then, she goes to the cookware and bakeware aisle and gets everything for the kitchen. Then, she goes to the bedroom section and gets a California King full bedroom set; bed, two nightstands; each with built in outlets and usb ports, a dresser, chest and the mirror for above the dresser. She then goes and gets blankets, sheets, comforters and pillowcases for when she wants a change. She grabs lamps, a few tv's, a few fans, an entertainment system, some end tables, a couch/sectional and a coffee table. Lastly, she goes and gets everything else she needs, including food and more clothes. She pays for everything and sets up the furniture to be delivered this afternoon at three. She puts everything she bought not being delivered in the truck and goes home.
That afternoon everything is delivered and put where it goes and where she wants it. She wipes down the tables and puts the freshly washed cookware, bakeware, bed clothes and regular clothes away. She makes her bed and takes a shower.
When she's done, it's almost seven. She decides to make a Mexican Casserole so she can have multiple meals and not have to cook for a few days. Within two hours, she has everything cooked, layered in the dish and in the oven. It cooks for about twenty to thirty minutes and she takes it out. She tops it with shredded cheese and puts it back in to melt. Once it does, she takes it out and lets it cool. She gets two small pieces and eats.
When she's finished, she puts her plate in the sink, washes it, dries it and puts it away. She covers the rest and puts it in the refrigerator. She then brushes her teeth and goes to bed.
