Two weeks later, they've just fought a house fire and been back long enough to take showers and get into bed, when they get another call. It's Joe's Bar.
Meanwhile, in the bar, are Pruitt Herrera, Jackson Avery, Benjamin Warren, Carina DeLuca and some other interns and doctors. Simms is bleeding, and Helm is hurt. They start helping where they can. Then they start thinking of a way to get everyone out. Then, the woman in the car starts screaming. She thinks her husband is dying. Warren has her feel for a pulse and he has one.
Back with the team, Vic gets a call from Jackson.
Phone Call
Vic: Hey, lover, sorry I'm on a call. Car plowed into Joe's bar. Gotta make this quick.
Jackson: Yeah. I'm in the bar.
Vic: That's not funny.
Jackson: No, it's really not.
Vic: Okay, well I buried a man I love not all that long ago so catastrophe humor isn't really my thing.
Jackson: And yet I remain in the bar.
Vic: What? You're serious?
Montgomery: What?
Vic: Are you hurt?
Montgomery: Why is he hurt?
Jackson: No. I'm not hurt alright. It's just the front door is blocked by the car and the back door is blocked by something on the outside.
Vic: Okay you're in the bar. You're trapped, you're trapped in a burning bar.
Jackson: It's not burning. Okay? There's nothing burning.
Vic: Well, not yet. How bad is the car situation?
Jackson: You know what, I gotta give you to Warren.
Warren: Hey. There's no fire threat but the structural integrity of the front wall's been compromised and the rear exit's blocked and we have uh, six injured some dire. Get here now. Also, tell Bishop that her wife is in the bar with us as well.
They hang up.
"Hot Doctor Lover's trapped in Joe's Bar," questions Montgomery.
"Just shut up and drive," replies Vic.
They get there a few minutes later.
"Alright, I want this vehicle to be secured and stabilized with cribbing and lifting straps right now. (into the radio) Station 19 requests two additional engines, two aid cars and a USAR company," says Maya.
"This wall is load bearing. It's supporting the front of the bar," says Gibson.
"Several structural supports have been sheared or compromised, Captain," says Miller.
At that moment, Vic runs up to Maya.
"Captain, Ben Warren's on the inside. He said the back door is blocked from the outside and there are multiple critical injuries. Also in there Maya,
is your wife."
"Take Gibson and-"
Herrera interrupts.
"Gibson, Hughes, let's assess."
They all three run to the back. Herrera gets into the truck and tries to hot wire it, but doesn't succeed. The team runs back there to help move it and just as they start, the tow truck starts backing in. They stop pushing and start yelling at the tow truck to move. Herrera tells Maya and she says to use it. They do.
Meanwhile, inside the bar the car slips and the scissors Joan got out to cut her seatbelt are in her carotid. She's gone. They get her out anyway. They get the truck moved and get inside.
"Jackson," says Vic.
"Yeah, Vic. Over here."
She walks to him.
"Alright, attention," exclaims Jack. "This is Seattle Fire Department. Anyone who can walk, I need you to make your way up the stairs and out the back entrance, alright? Let's go."
"Over here. Follow me," says Hughes.
They start getting everyone out. Montgomery covers Joan up on the floor. Outside, they're getting everyone in aid cars.
"You okay," asks Vic.
"Hey. Yeah. Um, I'm gonna head back to work,
see if I can help."
"Yeah, of course."
"You look, um—"
"Filthy. Yeah, I know. I also stink."
"Hot. Actually, you look hot."
"Yeah? You like soot? Soot's your thing?"
"Apparently, soot's one of my things now."
She walks away to the aid car. Ben walks out of the bar and hugs Miranda.
"You're okay," says Miranda.
"Yeah, I'm okay. I'm, okay," replies Ben. "It's my fault. If I'd made it into Medic One-"
"Wait. What?"
"M-m-my job is too stressful for you. Alright? You were too scared. I-It's my fault."
"Ben, no," exclaims Bailey. "This was not your fault. This was not anybody's fault. Maybe it's gods fault. If you want somebody to blame. Yeah, your job scares me to death, but you weren't even at work tonight and look what happened. So...Life. It scares me to death sometimes."
"Yeah, okay. We're okay. We're okay."
"Oh. I have to go back to work."
"I know." He sighs. "I know. Miranda, your residents."
"Okay. How bad is it," she asks.
"I'll walk with you."
They walk to Grey Sloan and talk.
"Alright, let's do our last inventory check and get out of here," says Maya.
"Bambina."
Maya looks and sees Carina walking toward her.
"Babe. Are you okay," she wonders.
"I'm fine. In dire need of a shower. I'm gonna walk to the hospital and take one in my office. Then, I'll go get the kids, take them home to bed, fix myself some dinner and go to sleep. They may need me to work later today."
"Okay. I'll see you later."
"See you later."
Maya gets into the engine and Herrera drives off.
"Are you okay," asks Maya. "Because we haven't talked like we used to since Ryan died and the night with your dad, and you don't seem okay."
"I'm not a slut. I've only ever slept with Ryan and Gibson."
"There's some built up tension in you. Everyone feels it. I honestly don't care that you slept with him. I care that you won't talk to me."
Andy sighs.
"I don't hate you. I also don't think you're a sociopath or are wrecking the firehouse. I was only acting mad because everyone was talking about how I should've been the one to make Captain because I'm apparently a legacy. I'm actually genuinely happy for you and miss you as my friend. Oh, and by the way, I broke up with Gibson because all he wanted to talk about was how you took the job from me and once we got you to quit or transfer, one of us would be named captain."
"I didn't even know they were gonna give it to me until after you two finished everything to do with the Captaincy Tests. Frankel called me into her office one evening after shift and told me. I was told to keep it a secret until it was announced. I never expected the team to act like they have."
"Well, even though we're back to being friends, how about we make everyone think I still can't stand you," wonders Andy.
"That's cruel. Cruel but brilliant. I'm in."
"Okay."
They focus on getting back to the station. Once there, they get cleaned up and lay down to rest and sleep. It's three in the morning. Ten minutes later, they get a call that keeps them out until the end of shift.
