"Yao-san?" Japan started airily. "Why do you want me to call you big brother?" It was a bright and warm spring afternoon, as China and Japan sat out on China's porch enjoying the sites of the city in the distance. China had just sat back down, after going back inside to put away the small tea set and plates the two had out. He didn't answer very fast though, only leaning back a bit, smiling and beginning to kick his feet like a small child.

"Because we're family!" He responded simply, turning toward China with eyes almost as bright as the clear sky. Japan sighed, turning his head away for a moment and resting it on his hand.

"We're not brothers..." Escaped his mouth in a whisper.

"Aiyah, why won't you just call me big brother?" China's had a mock whine in his voice. He giggled, patting Japan's back gently, then returning to his relaxed position. Japan didn't relax though, he sat there, head still turned away from the older nation next to him. Knowing what to say at times like this was not his strong point, nor saying what needed to be correctly. So he simply sighed again, shrugging his shoulders carelessly. China looked up, realizing Japan's odd behavior. "Is something wrong?"

"Ah..." Japan started, slightly started by China's asking. "No." He started as quickly as he could, hoping that China would turn back around and go back to normal. But China didn't, he sat there a little long, simply staring at Japan's. He was blushing lightly, making China want to giggle at his cuteness. In that moment China thought quickly of how much good it would feel to call this, of any other outing with Japan a date. He shook the thought away though, not wanting to stir things up.

"You sure? You're acting kind of strange aru." Japan popped his eyes as the blush on his cheeks turned from pink to bright red. Did he really just say that? Was he really calling you out on your strange behavior? Swallowing his nervousness he turned to face China, to face the glass separating them.

"Strange how?" Japan asked, airy tone now back.

"I don't know! Just strange! You took so long to answer my question, and then didn't even give me a answer. It's like you were thinking of something, but didn't want to say it aru."

"Ah... well..." China sat up even more, placing his head on his hand and staring deeply at Japan, at the glass in front of them.

"Well, what?" China was trying to keep his cool, but couldn't help from letting his words stutter a little. He'd never seen Japan so flustered before, it was adorable, but terrifying at the same time. What was he about to say? Was it embarrassing? Scary?

"I don't really know how to answer, that's all. I don't really know why I don't see us as brothers and I don't really know what I consider us to be." He looked up at China with one of most clouded faces he'd even seen before. Japan looked so confused, but so worried at the same time.

"Oh..." China started, turning away from Japan a bit. That glass was still there, it was still sitting right in front of them. China couldn't see it, Japan couldn't see it but the two both hated feeling it. With an almost equally clouded look China turned back to Japan. "You don't know huh?" He reached up, touching the wall, looking for weak spots. It was thin, but it was strong, but nothing was unbreakable. "So does that mean our relationship is open to you?" He tapped on the glass, trying to get Japan's attention. "Does that mean we can still shape it? Turn into whatever we want it to be?" He tapped a little harder.

"If that's what you want..." Japan backed away a bit, not wanting to walk to wall, wanting to hide behind it again, act like he couldn't understand. "But, I'd really like it if we could." Casting aside his fear a bit, he tapped back, letting China know that he could not only understand but felt the same away. "I'd really like to get to know you again." He tapped even harder now, trying to get China's attention and it was not a miss.

A bright smile zipped across China's face, making him shoot up, bringing the brightness back to his eyes. "Really...?!" He asked, excitement bursting through him before he had a chance to control it.

"You seem very happy about that..." Japan sat up now too. Both placed their hands parallel to the others, trying as hard as the could get a feel, for the other across the glass.

"Of course, aru!" He tapped as hard as he could. "I've been wanting a too get to know you more for such a long time now. It would be nice, refreshing, to see you through a different light." A small crack had been made, making Japan pop his eyes and blush once more.

"You... you really want too?" China nodded, staring up at the crack he just made, giving Japan a welcoming look. Telling Japan without words that it was finally okay, that this wall was getting old, that it needed to come down... that he could actually speak freely to him. "That's good... because I've been wanting to change my view of you as well." Japan tapped. "Doing that together, would be amazing." Another small crack had been made, weakening the wall, closing the distance between the two.

They stared at each other a moment more, then turned back to the now orange colored sky. The sun was beginning to set, dying the sky and all the clouds in it a warming color. Japan inched slightly closer to China, placing his hand on the very stair they were sitting on. China did the same, placing his right next to Japan, almost allowing their fingers to touch. The wall was still there, the glass hadn't been broken, but it had shown the two it's weak spots. It won't be there forever. For now though, they can only tap away, showing the other that they can hear through the glass and understand what's being said. They're trying, chipping away at it, hoping that one day it'll be fully broken and they can be as close as before, or even closer.
