Izuku noticed how his class seemed to be acting... different. They seemed to be walking on their toes around him, and kind of avoiding him. Katsuki would glare a yell at them like normal but they didn't have the usual reaction.
They acted like they were walking on glass and they had to find a way to get to Izuku without cutting themselves, so they could save him from the glass.
Other students seemed to be... hateful. They looked at him either with pity or with superiority and it confused Izuku.
Kirishima walked up to him cautiously, class had just ended.
"Hey Midoriya-San, how are you feeling?" It's like it didn't click in their brains that this was the same Izuku that had taken down so many villains on his own, and saved so many people before.
"Kiri, why are you being formal?" Izuku scoffed amusedly.
Kirishima smiled weakly. "I was just wondering."
Izuku nodded with an eyebrow raised. "Sure, I'm okay. How are you?" The air was tense around them as many students watched the conversation.
"Good, good. Uhm, Midoriya?" Kirishima chewed on his tongue while Izuku gestured for him to go on. "I'm... sorry, about your past I mean."
"Okay," Izuku sighed, dropping the fake smile and looking over at Katsuki pointedly. "What is this about?"
Katsuki growled something under his breath while everyone else looked nervous, like Izuku was a glass vase about to tumble off of the fridge. When Izuku gave him another look Katsuki rolled his eyes and pushed off of the wall.
"They know you were quirkless as a kid, dipshit." Katsuki wrapped an arm over Izuku's shoulder, tugging him to his own body.
"Oh," Izuku laughed. "Is that why you're being weird? I just developed my quirk late." His smile then turned suspicious. "How did you guys find out?" He had a lot of hidden dirt that could be dug up if you looked hard enough.
Kirishima looked away abashedly, bringing a hand to his neck. Iida had screamed it once before but no one thought too hard about it because he was being weird and emotional at that time. He spouted a lot of different shit and that's all class 3-A took it as.
Hagakure came closer and spoke up. "There were two nice boys who told us about you as a kid. They claimed to know you from middle school." She had a bite in her tone that Izuku couldn't work out and felt Katsuki squeeze his shoulder.
"Oh, okay," Izuku spoke cautiously, eyeing his peers. "Well, as I told you, I had a rare case where my quirk developed late and so I basically grew up quirkless." Izuku hoped no one cared enough to dig any more than that.
Though, that was never the case.
Instantly he was bombarded with questions and Izuku retracted slightly as it became really loud. Katsuki bared his teeth towards everyone, warning them to back off. He took notice of the few students who were staring with badly hidden disgust and he glared at them before turning his attention back to all the noises surrounding him.
Izuku tried to keep up with all the questions but they kept getting shot at him from all angles.
"How was it? Was it fun?"
"I've heard a lot of bad stuff about quirkless people."
"I haven't met a quirkless person before."
"What was it like?"
"When did you find out you had a quirk?"
"Was it hard, being defensless and weak all the time?"
