Before we start, I have a fun announcement to make and a sample story for one of my other books. In case you didn't already know, I am writing a story that is called Freezing Fire: Trapped in a Snow Globe, but this next story was one I wrote in fourth grade, which gave me the idea to expand the original version. Here is the original verion now. Enjoy!
If I Were Trapped Inside a Snow Globe
SPLASH! "Do you ever wish you could freeze the pool water and have snow?" Aria asked Jacquelyn. They lived in Hawaii where they got no snow. Aria was in fourth grade, and they were on a field trip to the pool, again. Some kids enjoyed field trips to pool, but some kids
(More like just Aria) didn't like nice, relaxing, coldish, warmish, pool trips. Only Aria was just thinking about snow. Today. Tomorrow. All. The. Time. "Aria, just enjoy the field trip." Jacquelyn said.
Later Aria was at her grandma's house. Her grandma's name was Mary Ann and she collected snow globes. Aria's favorite was one with a snowman in front of a cozy log cabin with a forest for a background. The log cabin had a fire burning in it and would often remind her of Christmas, which was almost here. Aria shook the snow globe, turned its wind-up key, hummed along with the melody for a little while, and thought about snow. Suddenly, PLOP!
"Where am I?" Aria wondered. "It's freezing here and-oh look snow! Aria was so excited that she screamed with delight, but as a response the forest remained quiet. "Aaahhhhh! It's wet, my shoes, they're getting wet! And what's worse is that I don't have a coat!" Aria said. I'd better go in the log cabin and warm up. It looks like it has a fireplace, maybe I'll figure out where I am. Aria thought. So just as Aria thought, she went in the cabin.
KNOCK, KNOCK, KNOCK, Aria thundered on the door. No response. KNOCK, KNOCK, KNOCK. Aria tried again. Still only the eerie silence of the woods and the log cabin. The snowman stared at her and sent chills down her spine, or maybe it was just the snow in her shoes. Either way this was weird. Aria was still determined so she tried the door. It unlocked! So silly of me to pound on the door, Aria thought. Although out loud Aria said, "Anybody home?" Nobody answered so Aria went inside to warm up. As she sat down by the fireplace Aria saw a sign that said: CHRISTMAS EVE! Oh my, it's almost Christmas, but I had no idea it was Christmas eve!" Aria said, shocked. "I'm getting hungry, I think I'll check the fridge." Aria said. Sadly, there was no fridge, but there a shed and it was cold enough to keep something from going bad. Aria was still determined so she marched into the cold, into the snow and into the shed to see if there was food inside. Luckily there was! SCRAPE, SCRAPE, DRAG, DRAG. "What was that!" Aria yelled, clearly frightened. "Sorry it was me!" Said a week voice from behind a fridge. Aria rounded the corner ready to think fast if she needed to. One thing to know about Aria is that she is brave. Brave and NOT very fond of snow anymore. Aria turned the corner again to find a girl not much smaller than herself. "I'm sorry for disturbing you my name is Isla." The girl said. "It's okay Isla, I was looking for some food, I'm hungry!" Aria replied, not so scared anymore. "Well, there's plenty here! How about we find what we like and have a seat in the house." Isla suggested." "Sure." Agreed Aria.
The 2 now-friends sat together at a table in the house and Isla told Aria that Santa Clause would come tonight to give them presents. And that's when it came a wonderful idea. An idea that would get her out of the snow globe. (She found out it was a snow globe form Isla) An idea that was smart, clever, and good, but she had to hurry.
Aria would need tools. She ran to the shed in the nick of time, for the shed although it had food it also had tools and just about everything else you would need for every occasion. When Aria got to the shed, she reminded herself that she had to hurry as she gathered tools such as a large metal piece that looked like a giant fishhook, lots of rope, and some binoculars.
While Aria waited outside, the snow began to fall, and bells began to jingle. RING, RING. Aria knew that that could only mean one thing, Santa Clause.
He was here in the house, delivering presents and his sleigh was right in front of her calling, begging for Aria to get in, but that was the plan, so she swung her grappling hook like thing up and caught his sleigh. Aria's hands hurt as she climbed up, up, up the rope and into the sleigh and - ack! Elves! Aria realized, but stay on schedule, she told herself, but in the back, way back in the deepest depths of her mind Aria recognized that elf. So familiar. And then it hit he the elf looked like Jacquelyn. "Sshhhh! Aria said to the elf. I have to get home, so I think I'm just going to snuggle in here."
The sleigh ride home was bumpy and had lots of stops, but when the sleigh reached her house Aria jumped out and landed on the roof. Right behind Santa, Aria jumped into the chimney and landed in the fireplace soot. As if in a secret spy mission, Aria crept behind a chair, then another, then another until she got to her room. It was really 12:00 exactly. So cool! Then Aria got in bed and drifted off to sleep.
The next morning Aria's alarm went off like usual. Aria jumped in the shower got nice and clean and jumped out in a flash, like usual. It was just like nothing happened, something did happen, something amazing, something super cool!
At school Aria saw Jacquelyn and told her about her adventure the night before: And then I climbed the rope it hurt but I kept climbing." Aria told the story over and over, but the most peculiar thing was that Aria didn't like snow so much now. Aria hoped another adventure would come but one never did. Nevertheless, Aria and Jacquelyn lived happily ever after.
So yeah, that was the original story. Read my latest version and compare to see if they are similar or not.
I realize that the name Aria from this short story and Arianna from this actual book are very similar, but I was in a naming faze in 4th grade and forgot until now when I put this 4th grade sample in here how similar the names are. Sry! Enjoy the real story next, and feel free to read my other book, Freezing Fire: Trapped in a Snow Globe!
