"Why me" Amber growled at the tall blonde superior.

"Because you're the best when it comes to education, writing, and reading." He replied, smoothly. His voice was so calm, that it further infuriated Amber.

"Why can't just Nanaba or someone else does it? They're better than me." She rolled her eyes. She had better things to do. She wouldn't refuse to help anyone but she didn't think it'll be a good idea to help the person she was nemesis with.

"Can't do. Nanaba's busy helping Hange with her experiments since we've made a breakthrough." Smugness laced his voice. This man, Erwin Smith was a smooth talker, he could make you do anything he wishes just by his flowery words.

"Erwin, you know he doesn't like me. I don't like that man either. We started off the wrong foot and I don't think Levi's a type of person to accept help from someone or even admit his weakness to others." Amber said. Even though he was her superior, they were close enough friends to be on a first-name basis when alone.

Erwin smiled, not a happy smile. The smug one, " I am aware, and you are right. More the reason for you to take the task then, you'll get along and be friends maybe. I am choosing you because you're the best person to handle this and you'll come to know why. And, don't let your feelings hinder your job, be professional here "

"But -"

"No buts, Amber. That's an order."

With that, Amber slouched, grumbling a 'fine' as she stormed out of his office. This new task was going to be interesting.

With this, she found herself standing in front of the mahogany door to the newly promoted captain's office. She remembered her time when she got her own quarters. How she was busy setting up her stuff, decorating it with a minimal aesthetic, and doing the paperwork.

She knocked lightly on the door.

"New captain, it's me, Amber." She scoffed, cringing at how she sounded. But there was no way she would call him 'captain' and she thought it'll be rude to call him by his first name now. Not that she cared anyway.

There was slight shuffling, the sound of a chair creaking, some incoherent grumbling and then the door flew open and Amber swore the sight she saw was not expected.

He was standing there ruggedly, eyes red and tired, and dark crescent bags underneath, lips into a frown, shirt hanging loosely with the collars standing up like he usually kept. The only difference was his cravat was missing, giving her a nice view of his neck.

Why are all the jerks and rude men hot like this? What is happening to the world?

"Are you done checking me out?" He spoke in his most deadpan voice. Walls, what is with him? Cactus.

Amber scoffed, "Don't flatter yourself."

"What do you want?" He seethed.

"Now now, I've sent by Erwin to see if you need help-"

"Not needed." He slammed the door shut, only to be stopped by her foot blocking him from doing so.

"Trust me, I'm not interested in this either, I would love to slam the door in your face but the commander's order." She spoke, nudging the door open with her foot. The man scoffed letting her in, begrudgingly. She stepped into his new office, aware of the man's piercing gaze watching her every movement like a hawk.

Walls, why is he so observant? It's not like he has illegal stuff in there, or no, he probably does...

Amber checked out the office. Neat and pristine which was highly expected, minimal aesthetic like hers except... she expected it to be like a cold, dark dungeon vibes room. Black and grey bedsheets and curtains, metal chains hanging around, or some shit. Not a warm, cozy place that feels like...home? The man was so cruel that it was almost fitting that his room probably had some sort of torture machines, knives, and poison of some sort. She did not expect his room to be so soft and warm. It was....nice
