max was being cursed by vecna. there was already 3 deaths caused by him and he needed to kill 1 more person and he could escape from the upside down and enter the real world.
they had a plan to defeat vecna and save the world.
meanwhile el was gaining her powers again to save hawkins and in hawkins max and the rest of the party were in a trailer which they had stolen a couple minutes ago, max was sitting alone listening to kate bush when lucas had sat near her where they had discussed about a different approach but max wanted to go ahead with her approach as she thought it was best as she had more knowledge about vecna.
