Veer flipped through the papers in his hands once again, searching for the discrepancy that caused the error. He frowned. Rubbing the back of his neck, he sighed as he was unable to see how this oversight had occurred.Amrita, Akshay and his father Avtar were on their way, with their entourage in tow, and this issue here could potentially ruin the hard work of so many. It was their job to put on this party and make sure it ran smooth. They had been preparing for months for this. It couldn't be. It couldn't be ruined by something like this, could it?
Veer also worried if this was just the tip of the iceberg and what other oversights were lying in wait. He stood against the reception desk in the loading bay, under the floor of the vast Pit and leading to the catacombs where the kitchens, warehouses and various stock rooms were located. The temperature was much cooler here than upstairs, where even his simple white t-shirt felt a tad too much.
The uniform for the night was simple for the staff. Either black plain clothes for the regular staff and white for senior staff. Veer had been trusted to take over for a senior tonight and therefore had come in early to help set up. He knew already a lot of people that were involved and had been helping in his capacity from the start; so he integrated seamlessly with the change of management.
A wire piece was attached to his ear that regularly cackled with transmissions of commands and enquiries as various team members communicated over a specific radio frequency chosen for the evening. All day long the loading bay had been in use as crates, trays, barrels, boxes and packages came back and forth with all the consignments needed to put on a night of hedonistic heaven. AA records had made it a point to put out all the stops. They were determined to make it the party of the year.
To cater to their guests, The Arena had been divided by its two main levels. The expansive dance floor known as the Pit would accommodate the majority of the guests who had paid for exclusive tickets, while the upper floor and associated boxes were for the use of the VIP guests that Avtar had himself invited. These areas were cordoned off and guarded by the best of their bouncers. No cameras were allowed beyond this point and if a person had no business being there, they weren't allowed up there.
For any hungry guests a full buffet service was being prepped by the best chefs from around the country and drinks would be on the house anyways. There was a smaller bar upstairs while the larger bar was downstairs for everyone else to use.
To get in, a separate entrance was available. That way the army of paparazzi camped outside of the barricaded lines of the club could be avoided. Armed with their cameras and special lenses, they were primed to take snaps of the movers and shakers of the city's elite. The pictures would undoubtedly find their way unto various media outlets and since press were firmly not invited, this was their only chance to find out who were the chosen few. This made the entry to the club no less than a red carpet at a movie festival or premiere.
With all that pressure, Veer's shoulders drooped and his eyes stung. He looked over at the several cylindrical drums that had been delivered to them clearly in mistake and frowned even further. This was why he was down here. To sort out this mess. They needed confetti, not flower petals. Who had even ordered so many flower petals in the first place?
"Look all you want but I know what my job is Sir. Someone ordered all these flower petals to be delivered to this address and that is what I have delivered in absolute tip top condition. You can contest as much as you want but that's not my headache Boss." The delivery driver shook his head as he tapped his pen against the desk, annoying the security guard printing passes on the other side. He handed Veer a pass which Veer accepted with a quick thank you.
"Well I'm expecting confetti not flower petals. I have an after party to set up not a wedding nor a baby shower." Veer groaned trying to ignore the various commands his ear piece was relaying. It switched between various voices before cutting out.
