Henley was nervous the whole day, his heart hammered in his chest as the end of the school day neared. He feared for what Chasin would say, how he would react to them being mates.
When the final school bell rang, he shot up from his desk, running to his locker. He quickly shoved his books in a turned to see Chasin standing behind him. After jumping, he barely had time to catch his breath before Chasin pulled his arm and dragged him away.
Chasin pulled him through the school, ignoring all the curious looks from the other wolves. It really seemed like he didn't care what kind of prejudice he would get for being mated to a rabbit and that gave Henley hope. Maybe being mated to a different species wasn't so bad.
They made it to the court yard, hiding behind some tall bushes. It seemed more like a protective measure more than a fearful one. Chasin wanted to protect them from prying eyes rather than hide them away from the world. Henley was secretly thankful for the thoughtfulness. He rather liked being protected by Chasin already.
"I'm sorry I just don't want anyone to get any ideas. So, we're mates." Chasin spoke, crossing his arms in a comfortable way.
"Yes we are, if you reject me I understand-" he was cut off, Chasin deciding he didn't like the words Henley was spewing.
"I'm not rejecting you, far from it, I want to get to know you. I know most mates jump each other's bones the second they meet, but I want to know you." He said, rubbing the back of his neck awkwardly.
Henley could barely speak let alone breath. He was completely entranced by Chasin's words, completely entranced by Chasin. He saw the gorgeous green eyes clearly, the golden flakes evident in them as he stared. He couldn't pull his eyes away, even as Chasin's eyes fluttered closed and lips fell upon lips.
The kiss was soft and full of love, they didn't know each other at all yet but it was evident they loved each other already. It ended all too soon for Henley's liking and he pouted silently causing Chasin to chuckle to himself. A blush quickly reddened Henley's cheeks at that beautiful sound. Chasin's chuckle was deep and soft, the sound vibrating through his chest a lighting up his face. He looked like a god.
"You're too cute Bun." Chasin spoke, giving a nickname to his tiny mate. Henley couldn't stop his half shift from popping out at that, his big floppy ears falling in front of his redded face. It seemed to startled Chasin a bit before a laugh fell from his gorgeous plump lips.
"Sorry, it's a nervous habit. What would you like to know?" Henley asked, hoping a change of subject would help his shift go away. Chasin reached over, pushing the floppy grey ears out of Henley's eyes and staring deeply into the bright blue orbs.
"What's your favorite color? What's the name of your rabbit? How big is your family? Why did you transfer here?" Chasin asked, stopping after he realized he was overwhelmed his poor mate with the sheer amount of questions he had.
"Green, Kricket, there's 9 of us if you include me, and because I was too smart for the all rabbit school." Henley answered before gesturing for Chasin to answer some of the questions as well.
"Well it just changed to blue, Cyrus, and I'm an only child so 3." Chasin spoke, feeling his wolf celebrating in his mind. Henley felt his rabbit do the same, celebrating having a mate who wasn't going to reject him just because of their different species.
The two continued to talk about all their likes and dislikes, losing track of time as they sat behind to bush until the sun was starting to set. It wasn't like Henley was going to be missed by his huge family, they rarely noticed him as it was and had only sent him to this school so the old school would quit pestering.
Chasin's phone, however, was blowing up with notifications. His pack desperately trying to get ahold of him via the mindlink as well. It was easy enough for him to ignore all of it though when he talked to his beautiful mate.
"It's getting late, we should probably go home before security kicks us out. Also, it sounds like your family is worried." Henley said. His half shift had retreated hours ago. He felt sad knowing that his mate would have to leave him for a little while, but his brain knew they needed rest.
Anxiety crept into his chest though and he started to question whether or not they'd have the same connection the next day. This could just be a one off deal, being so close for only a day before Chasin realizes just how much is at stake and leaves him. This mating bond could completely destroy the reputation of his pack and make them vulnerable to attacks.
Henley started to shake, his own thoughts starting to get to him, causing him to lose control of his form again. His grey ears flopped down and his little cotton tail popped out in the back, shaking as well.
Chasin quickly acted, pulling the small shifter into his arms and making soothing noises. He smiled to himself as Henley calmed slowly. He was filled with pride for being able to calm the poor rabbit.
"I know you're scared about tomorrow. Our mating may come as a shock to others but I promise my pack is strong, even if we become a target it won't last long. Henley, this isn't going to be easy but no mating is. How about tomorrow I introduce you to some of my friends, give you some back up to show you everything will be fine?" Chasin suggested, hoping Henley would say yes as he also just wanted to show Henley off.
"That would be great. I'm sorry, us rabbits get stressed so easily. I trust you Chasin." Henley said. They agreed on where to meet in the morning, exchanging sad good-byes before heading to their respective houses.
Henley hoped what Chasin had said was true, that everything would be okay despite them being destined mates. He kept his head down on the subway, knowing everyone could smell a powerful wolf's scent on him. He hoped they all just assumed he had been bullied or attached and not loved.
He walked into his house after a thirty minute commute home. His little burrow was cosy, warm, but noisy with all 7 of his sister's gossiping and bragging about their lives to their mother. He hoped to just quietly head to his room but Chasin's scent on him was picked up by the 8 other shifters quickly.
It suddenly went quiet, the smell of fear rising quickly and suffocating them all. Even Henley who knew nothing was wrong started feeling anxiety just from the fearful pheromones. The silence was short lived after that as his sisters' mouths started going a mile a minute with questions. They knew he'd come home smelling like wolf but this was too strong, and from a dominant wolf.
"Henley, are we safe or did you piss off someone who will kill us all?" His mother asked, her half shift coming out with white ears standing tall on her head.
"We're fine, mother. I'm going to bed" Henley said, shutting down anymore questions. He wanted to finish his homework and get back to Chasin and school as soon as possible.
He finished off the night falling asleep to the fantasies in his head.
