— Tryouts —

A new season had just begun for the New Trine Boys Varsity High School Hockey team. Late August rolled around with a couple hectic weeks into the Senior year of many members of the team. One Senior in particular was named Emma Dawson.

But whats so important about Emma Dawson that she is being introduced in the first paragraph? Well out of all the boys in the team, Emma Dawson held the title of assistant coach alongside her father who was the head coach. Her name could either bring shivers to competitive teams or make many boys roll their eyes at her due to her strictness. But there is a reason why the school has been able to take many first place trophies home to display.

Sadly the school only had enough members to form a boys JV and Varsity Hockey team, and there were no girls interested in playing for a team so that left Emma out to decide whether she would play another sport or help her father out with the team. She picked to help.

Since she was a freshman at New Trine she's spent all of her free time working on strategies, creating game plans, planning dry land workouts, team bonding activities, anything to make the team stronger. It was the thing she looked forward to the most to the point that it didn't even feel like her job. Everything came to her easily with little stress. But that care freeness was starting to fade out when she entered her last year of high school.

It could be set that Emma was set for her last year to be the best one yet. Her grades were not the best but her test scores gave her the opportunity to qualify for the University she's wanted to go to since she was a young girl. Her spot was secured all she had to do was stay out of trouble and keep a decent GPA. But having this be her last year and the only year her brother Tommy would be in the team to annoy was starting to stress her out lightly. A beautiful chapter of her life was about to end and it was a little scary to think about sometimes.

On the way to the rink, Emma was already making plans for the scrimmage and activities that will help her father and other coach decide the positions for the rest of the season while sitting in the passenger seat. She took a look at the names and checked the ones who showed up to the optional camp weeks prior to the beginning of the season. She liked the weeks of camp where she got to know the players and see them create friendships that will last for the rest of the season. There was one name on the spreadsheet she was checking to who was in the team that she couldn't remember from camp though..

Clay Watson

The name sounded familiar but didn't ring any bells besides seeing it written down on the sign up sheet during try outs. She brushed it off without thinking too much about it. But Clay Watson was the most known name around the rink, it was imposible that his name could fly off her radar that easily.

A little fact about Clay Watson is that his name is probably the most well known around all rinks in town. His name became popular among both players and coaches while he practically grew up in skates running around the various rinks around town. From a young age everyone could notice his huge potential and radiant personality that made him the whole deal. Clay was able to make a name for himself from the first season his parents signed him up to play and the rest is history. Coaches often found themselves trying to get this star player in their team and other players just wanted to be his friend. Clay Watson was the name that was in everyone's mouths. So Emma not caring about who this could be was extremely rare.

Even though he's been playing triple a hockey since he was 14, this year he decided to take it easy and spend his last year as a Senior with his friends in the team. Without question he got into the Varsity team, as soon as Coach Dawson spotted his name he knew he deserved a spot. Clay knew this would be like a breeze to him, how hard could it be after all right?
