"Why has mom not come home in so long?" I ask looking at Jamie. Mom has never been away from home for so long. Dad hasn't talked to me in a long while too. He always seems serious.
"Mom won't come back " Jamie says as he turns to look at me. He cups my cheeks in his hands " She has gone to live in a faraway place among the stars. She watches over us from there"
That was the first time I got to know of my mother's death. Jamie never told me directly but I understood everything as time passed.

"There's a singing competition at school tomorrow you'll be there right?"
Jamie smiled and said " Ofcourse I would be there for my baby sisters performance"
"And dad? He'll be there too right?"
"Ofcourse he will"
Dad never came......

Jamie squeezed the cloth and placed it on my forehead again.
"Jamie?"
"Hmm"
"I am sick dad won't come and sit by my side?"
" He is busy. I am there with you aren't I?"
As years passed by I started feeling that our dad just didn't care about us anymore. Jamie was the only person I was close to, the only person I shared all my secrets with.

*Sniff sniff*
"What happened Jenny? Why are you crying?"
"Mu..my uh... Jason broke up with me *sob sob* "
" Maybe he just wasn't the one for you Jenny... I sure you will find someone better... " He said that as he hugged me.
I thought Jamie will always be there by my side. But the proverb nothing stays the same forever proved right. Jamie got a job and became busy. We drifted apart. I haven't even seen him since a year.

I sigh coming out of my reverie . It was two o clock right now and dad was still not home. I decided to sleep on the sofa and wait for him. After all if he does come home I'll wake up from my sleep being the light sleeper that I am.
* Next update will most probably deal with her telling her dad about her illness. I need to properly think that part out so it will probably take some time. This chapter was basically to highlight the part that Jamie has been one of the main people in Jenny's life that have provided her with emotional support. Their bond used to be really very strong. It's just a few recollections here that i wanted to write our to make a fundamental impression of the importance of Jamie in her life.*
