Three families ruled figure eight. The Patels and Van Dorens had been leading the show for generations, as their elder family members pledged to pass old money down to their successors to prevent their lineage from facing the same struggles they did. The Camerons had only recently joined the clique once Ward Cameron made his fortune.
As the youngest child after her sister, Odessa Patel knew she had a reputation to uphold. The shadow of Lilou was comfortable and safe, few eyes were on her and many people favoured Odessa because of her sister.
She also knew that when the times comes, the inheritance will be split evenly between Odessa and Lilou so there was little reason in trying to best her sister as she wasn't going to get any more money by simply being better. The inheritance meant the world to Odessa, it was the key to getting off the island to receive an education elsewhere.
Yet, this chance starts to slip from her fingers as the reigning families accuse each other of theft and lies, leading to rumours being spread with positions in power being questioned.
Odessa was desperate to get into college, meaning it was essential that her college essay was perfect without it being stained by the possibility of her family's bad notoriety.
Fortunately for her, the boy who delivers her groceries was more than willing to lend a hand and aid her, in return for Odessa helping to prepare him for his interview. It was a win-win situation for the both of them, they just didn't think that the long nights and the frequent visits would lead to unwelcome feelings that neither one of them expected.
