Belly was my best friend in the entire world. How lucky was I that I got to spend her birthday with her every year? On her birthday there is a tradition that I like to do every year.

Belly was already in bed so I had about an hour and a half to get everything together. I'm in the kitchen, AirPods in as I start on the cupcakes. Strawberry cake mix with actual strawberry's. I dance to the music as I add the ingredients and begin mixing. Eventually I pour the mixture into the cupcake pan and place it in the oven.

Next, the gift. I make sure it's wrapped just right and that the bow looks perfect. I then move onto the card. It was a cute card that I designed online and printed off at the town library earlier today. The art was illustrated and printed but I wanted my message to be handwritten. It's more personal that way.

I place the card in the bag and fluff the tissue paper. Just then, the timer for the oven goes off. I turn off the timer and bring out the cupcakes. I set the tray on the stove top to cool off and I get the frosting ingredients ready. Sure, it would be easier to just buy frosting but I liked to make my own. I enjoyed baking.

I mixed the frosting and bagged it up. Next, I take one of the cupcakes, making sure it's completely cooled off, and I do the perfect cupcake top swirl. I add the candles, one and six. I put on one of the party hats, carrying the second one on my arm, and light the candles. I carry the gift in one hand and the cupcake in the other. I wait just outside of our room and wait for the clock in the hallway to strike midnight before going in full force.

"Happy birthday to, you. Happy birthday to, you." I watched as Belly sat up from where she was pretending to sleep. "Happy birthday dear, Belly. Happy birthday to you. Make a wish."

Belly closed her eyes as she made her wish as I took a seat next to her. She opened her eyes back up and blew out the candles, or so she thought. She tried to blow out the candles but they were the ones that were nearly impossible to blow out.

"What kind of candles did you buy?" She laughed.

"I thought it would be funny." I laughed as well. "I was right."

"Cruel." She laughed as she finally blew them out. "I have been waiting all year for this cupcake."

"You know, you could make it whenever you want. It's really simple." I told her as I handed her the cupcake and placed the party hat on her head.

"Yeah, but then it wouldn't be as special." She smiled.

"Okay, I am really excited to see you open this." I said placing the gift in front of her.

"Yay, okay." She smiled, beginning to open the gift. She grabbed the card first, and began to read. Her eyes were full of sentiment as she smiled back up at me. She placed the card next to her and pulled out the gift. It was a box that I had wrapped which leads to another box, and another, and another. "Wow, how you know I wanted for boxes?"

"It's worth it, I promise." I smiled. "This is the last one."

"Okay." She smiled. Belly laughed as there was another box. "Last one?"

"Okay, I forgot about that one. That was the last one." I smiled. Belly went on to open the last one and finally found the actual gift.

"Oh my god, I love it!" She exclaimed. It was a bracelet. The bracelet was a bird and a butterfly with a gem invetween. "It's us!"

"Yeah." I smiled. "Look inside."

"Inside?" She asked.

"Hold the gem up to your eye." I told her.

She looked through the gem and gasped. "Okay, this is like magic! This is amazing!"

"Now throughout the year when we're not, together, you can have a little piece of me with you." I told her. "Look, I have a matching one.
