Today was the first dance practice for the deb ball. Belly still did not have a date, but I had Myles. Sort of.
Myles had excused himself to go to the restroom twenty minutes ago. I looked around and watched as everyone else had a dancing partner. Belly even had Nicole.
Where are you? I sent in a text to my awol boyfriend. No answer.
"Looks like you need a dancing partner. May, I?" Jeremiah was now standing in front of me.
"I would love that, actually. It beats standing here looking like an idiot." I exclaimed.
"Where's Myles, anyway?" Jeremiah asked.
"He, um, he had to step out. But I'm sure he'll be back any minute now." I tried to excuse the boy who had presumably ditched me.
"Well, in the mean time, I'm here." Jeremiah had said. My lips curved into a smile. Jeremiah always knew how to make me feel better. He was always there when I needed him.
"Do you know what you're doing?" I asked Jeremiah as we danced completely off from everyone else. We moved at a much faster pace.
"Of course, I do. Hey, Alexa, play So Pretty." Jere had said. Alexa plaid the song and Jeremiah began dancing to the song. Everyone stopped and watched as the ballroom music was now gone.
Everyone cheered him on as he continued to dance. Soon enough, they followed his lead. Everyone danced to the much more upbeat song. Even I joined in. Jeremiah always knew how to have fun. Dancing with my peers, and Jeremiah, made this practice ten times more interesting.
"What is going on here?" We heard as our teacher, Paige, had now returned. "Alexa, stop. Jeremiah Fisher, why aren't you at the pool?"
"We had a code brown." Jeremiah answered. "And, uh, we lost the keys to the chemical closet."
She fiddled through her keys before handing Jere the right one.
"Thanks." Jeremiah said. "See ya later." He winked at me before heading for the door.
"Get going, Jeremiah." Paige had said. It was then that I saw Conrad by the door. He smiled at me, followed by a wave. I returned his wave, only to see Nicole also waving. This was awkward. "Alright, everyone, let's try this again..."
I looked around before heading for the door. Conrad was leaving as well. It wasn't until he turned back that he had even noticed I was behind him.
"Are you following me?" He joked.
"Don't flatter yourself, Conrad." I teased back. "I just really need to get out of there."
"Won't Paige be upset that you're missing practice?" He asked.
"Honestly, I doubt she notices. I think she'd notice that I was the only partnerless Deb before she'd notice my absence."
"Where's Malcom anyway?" He asked.
"Myles." I corrected. "Your guess is as good as mine."
"He ditched you?" Conrad had asked.
"I'm sure he has some kind of reasoning for not coming back. Myles would never ditch me." I explained. I was completely contradicting my own thoughts on the subject but Conrad already had issues with Myles, I don't want to feed into that.
"So where you gonna go?" He asked.
"Home. I'm not too sure this is right for me anymore." I told the boy.
"I could've told you that." Conrad said.
"Why are you so against it, anyway? Because you girlfriend is a Deb? Is that it?" I asked.
