As the brothers separated from their hug, they each began to reflect on their "dreams" and how they could use them to wake up their friends.
"Nezuko, are you alright?" Tanjiro asked, noticing his sister's slightly downcast expression.
"I'm fine, Onii-chan. Don't worry," Nezuko whispered, though deep inside, she couldn't help but think about the peculiar dream she had experienced.
"I... It was about our family... Before 'He' attacked them... It gave me a bit of courage," Tanjiro explained, his face clouded with sadness.
Nezuko's concern grew as she saw the pain in her brother's eyes. "Onii-chan, are you okay?" she asked, worried for his well-being. It was unusual to see him so emotional, as he was usually the one with a smile on his face.
"Yes, I'm fine. I was just thinking about how that demon dared to use our loved ones for his atrocities," Tanjiro replied, his sadness turning into determination. He was ready to fight for justice and to protect innocent lives.
Nezuko nodded in agreement, her anger building up as she thought about the innocent people being manipulated by the demon. In a swift movement, she attempted to cut one of the ropes binding her friends, but her efforts were in vain. Tanjiro joined in, but their attempts to free their companions were met with failure.
Frustration began to consume Nezuko as she desperately struck at the ropes. In a moment of anger and determination, her katana began to turn crimson red. Surprised, Tanjiro warned his sister, and together, they managed to break one of the strings. The discovery sparked a new hope within them.
"Nezuko, we need to free the others now!" Tanjiro commanded, and with renewed determination, they worked together to sever the ropes that bound their friends' necks.
As everyone got up, confusion and surprise filled the air. Some of them believed that their dreams had been real, while others, like Mitsuri Kanroji, knew deep down that they would never be accepted. Zenitsu, on the other hand, was amazed by the turn of events.
"Nezuko-chan, you finally realized that I'm better than that clumsy pillar!" Zenitsu exclaimed excitedly, moving in to try and kiss her. It resulted in a brief, awkward exchange of seconds before Nezuko pulled away.
"Eh..." Nezuko was taken aback, her first kiss stolen by someone other than the one she truly loved.
"No... Zenitsu-san..." Nezuko hesitated, unsure of how to let him down gently. She didn't want to hurt his feelings, but she couldn't lie to him either.
Zenitsu's heart sank as he realized he had been rejected. The group, sensing his pain, gathered around him in a comforting hug.
"I'm sorry for making you feel bad, but I can't pretend to feel something I don't," Nezuko expressed sincerely, stepping away from the embrace. "There are many people in this world, and someone will love you for who you are. You're kind and handsome."
"I... I wish that person could be you," Zenitsu confessed, initially clinging to the hope that she would change her mind. But as he looked into her eyes, he understood that if he truly loved her, he had to let her be happy with the one she truly loved.
"Nezuko-chan, thank you for trying to cheer me up," Zenitsu said with a genuine smile, before whispering, "I wish you luck with Tokito-san. It's clear that he really cares for you." His words left Nezuko blushing.
"Can we still be friends?" Zenitsu asked, hoping to salvage their bond.
"Of course!" Nezuko happily agreed, her blush still evident from their previous conversation.
"Monitsu, Nezuko, enough with the cheesy talk. Let's focus on the demon inside this beast!" Inosuke interjected, wanting to divert their attention to the task at hand, though he couldn't help but worry about Zenitsu.
"Yes, Inosuke is right," Nezuko agreed, her mind refocused on the imminent threat. As they continued their journey on the train, a pink, viscous substance began to spread throughout the carriages.
"Wow... We need to be careful. We don't know if it's poisonous," Tanjiro cautioned, examining the mysterious substance with his sword.
"Agreed," his companions responded in unison, their determination unwavering in the face of this new danger.
