Yazmen

I awoke with a tingling throughout my body. My beautiful mate had found her way cuddled into my side.

I ran my fingers through her silky blonde hair and gently slid my fingertips down her arm.

She shivered and began to stir. Soon enough those beautiful green eyes were looking up at me. She yawned tiredly and rubbed the sleep out of her green eyes.

"Good mornin, Yaz.." She mumbled softly and started to sit up.

Aww! Yazmen, our mate already has a nickname for you. I wonder if she'll like and nickname me when she meets me. My wolf chimes in my head, her voice filled with curiosity.

She'll love you Jadyn. I know she will. This little ball of cuteness next to me will have to love you. She's our mate after all. I told my curious wolf. Her tail would be wagging if we were in wolf form.

Ruby doesn't sound like it's her proper name. It sounds like a middle or nickname. Jadlyn told me.

I got that feeling too. Let her warm up to us. She'll tell us her reasoning when she trusts us enough. I told Jadlyn.

She "okayed" me, and went in the back of my head.

I heard Ruby's stomach grumble and growl.

"Ruby, dear. Are you hungry?" I asked her. She nodded slightly.

Taking a better look at her, I noticed she was skinnier than any human should be. Her arms were so thin, you could wrap your fingers around it and almost do it again.

"Let's get some food into your belly, then get ready and go shopping," I told her. Her eyes seemed to brighten at the mention of food.

"You mean like.. Pancakes and eggs, and bacon?" She asked, her eyes hopeful.

I nodded and tucked her hair behind her ear. "Just that," I told her and got out of bed, her following behind me. I looked back at my thin mate, and took hold of her cold hand, then started leading her down the pack house stairs.

Once we reached the kitchen, I saw the chefs were already making breakfast. Scrambled eggs, pancakes, bacon, waffles, and hash browns. Ruby's eyes widened incredibly. It's like she hasn't seen food for a long time. Thinking about how skinny she was, she probably hasn't.

Ruby's stomach growls loudly, making me and my chefs laugh. Ruby's cheeks turn bright red as one of the chefs sets down a plate for her.

"I assume you're our Luna?" an elderly pack member asks.

Ruby looks to me for verification. I nod my head and smile at the elderly woman.

"Yes Roa, she is your Luna," I told the pack member with a smile, pulling Ruby's back close to my chest.

"Good morning world and all-" I hear my best-friends loud voice come through the house. "Who is that gorgeous girl right there?"

"The blonde one in my arms? Yeah, that's my mate, Kennie. Eyes and hands off." I tell my best friend.

"Awww! She's so pretty though." Kennie pouts.

"Kennie. Hands and eyes off." I scold her.

"Yes, Alpha.." She pouts, not being able to deny my sense of authority. That and my wolf having a strict one on one conversation with hers.

Ruby seemed shocked and looked up at me. Her beautiful green eyes flickering like there was a flame within them.

"Luna?" Kennie asked Ruby. "Welcome to the pack, love."

Ruby blushed a bright red as she looked at Kennie. Her eyes flicked to me as she hid her face in my neck. Kennie smiled, her hazel eyes rolling over the both of us approvingly.

"Ruby, dear. Eat something." I whispered in her ear, earning a nod in response. Ruby turned away from me, and picked up a piece of bacon, sniffing it before it touched her perfect lips.

I grinned and leaned down to kiss the crown of her head as she ate. Ruby continued to slowly eat as I stole pieces of food from her plate. I wasn't very hungry, but I did need to eat something.

All those tales about wolves having a high metabolism, and needing to eat large amounts to get the energy to shift? Incorrect. Wolves didn't have a high metabolism, we were always high on energy. We got this through the bond of our soul-mate, even though we haven't met them yet, most of the times.

Ever since we were born, the bond we share with our mate begins forming with the soul of them. Sometimes, the bond is so strong you don't even need to mark your mate before you're able to mind-link with, and read their thoughts. My mother's and fathers mate bond was like that. That's why they were so in love when I was born.

I noticed Ruby had finished eating, just as other pack members started stomping down the stairs. I knew who they were by their scents.

Raspberries and whipped cream - Scarletta.

Peaches with a hint of cinnamon - Claire.

A musky, body odor scent - Joey.

And last but not least, a faint flowery, lavender-like smell - Alice.

Alice's scent was just beginning to form. She was becoming the age where she would shift.

"Children, what have I told you about stomping the stairs?" My voice boomed as Alice hopped off the last step, and hid behind her older sister, Scarletta.

"Sorry, Alpha." They all chimed in, Alice's voice softer than the others.

"Don't do it again. Are we clear?"

"Yes, Alpha."

I nod my head, and take Ruby's hand in mine, and start leading her up the stairs. I see Alice's eyes follow Ruby, and decide I'll let the two mingle later, even if Alice is an Omega- the lowest of low. All of our Omega's were treated nicely, they just had to do a few more chores. Once we're up the stairs, and in our room, I see Ruby shaking her un-held by her side.

"Ruby?" My voice interrupts the silence.

"Mm?" she hums, looking at me.

I motion to her hand, and she stops shaking it immediately.

"It's an anxiety soothing mechanism I picked up when I was small." She says.

I nod, and kiss her forehead, then tell her to start getting ready, seeing as we're going to the mall.
