01. Bittersweet Champion

A'ja fiddled with the silky fabric of her leotard, scratching at the hems of the sparkly fabric. Today was the Regional finals, one of the most important championships for A'ja. The anxiety always gnawed at her very core during these events, but today, it was not the nerves of falling off the bars or slipping from the beam that was withering away at her insides.

It all lead back to Emiliano Gálvez. Who promised to be supporting her, and yet amongst the sea of bodies in her corner he was nowhere to be found. The minutes seemed to drag on forever, and foolishly A'ja glanced back up at the crowd consisting of her closest hoping that if she stared longer he'd appear miraculously. Though she shouldn't have been surprised, as this wasn't the first time he bailed on her on an important day, like when she asked to hangout after she had qualified for the very championship she was a finalist in right now.

Ronald Araujo knows his little sister like the back of his hand. Despite being up in the stands and ten feet away from where she stood with her coaches, it's evident she's peeved by something. He knew well enough what that something was, as did her best friends, Marc and Naija. The rest of the support crowd, Abi, Ronald's wife, Raphinha and his wife Taia, and Pablo Gavi could see it too.

Marc emitted an exasperated sigh. "He's not coming, is he?" It had been rhetorical, because if anyone knew A'ja and Emiliano's relationship, they'd known he'd been shitty to her for some time now.

"Good, fuck him anyways." Naija scoffed, leaning back on her seat. "He's such a bitch. Seriously, no way he can't be here for her on the single most important day of her life."

Gavi, fixated his gaze on A'ja on the floor, "Whatever, he's lazy and she's about to be a champion again so who's really losing here."  He chuckled

"Fuck me, why does he keep doing this," A'ja whispered angrily to herself. She threw her head back in annoyance, "One time! That's all I asked, for him to show up for once."
