Stella was not having any luck finding anyone to look after Oscar on Sunday. She was starting to think she was going to have to bring him along with her. What would that be like? Utter chaos most likely. It was Friday and she was trying to get paperwork finalized for her 3 o'clock meeting but couldn't stop stressing about Sunday. Her phone pinged:
Hi, how are you? X
Annabelle. Stella smiled.
Not great (delete, delete)
Bit stressed really, haha (delete, delete, delete, delete)
Fuck!
I'm ok. How are you? Xx
...
I'm good. Well bored. What are you doing this evening?
...
Oscar and I have no plans..
...
Well could I take you both out for dinner?
Does that work with a 3 year old?
I don't mind if it has to be early.
Or I could bring food to you?
What does he eat?
Ah that's if you're interested.
Sorry. Don't want to impose.
Stella felt a grin growing on her face as she looked at the messages coming in. She couldn't help but laugh at the impulsivity of Annabelle sending so many messages at once like that.
That sounds so lovely. How about you come over at 6 and we can order food in? X
...
Sounds good 😊
Stella texted Annabelle her address then tried to turn her focus back to her work. At least she had something nice to think about distracting her now. Stella realized it was pretty quick to be inviting a woman back to her place and into her son's life but Annabelle had already made a good impression on Oscar so she had a good feeling about her.
When Stella got home she began to panic. Why did I say six? That gives me hardly any time to tidy up! She madly rushed around tidying with Oscar under her feet. It was 5:45 and the house was as tidy as it was going to be. Stella wondered if she had time for a shower, probably not. She decided to just get changed and fix her hair and makeup a bit.
Annabelle didn't arrive until 6:15 which annoyed Stella a little as she would have had time to shower. She tried not to show it though and welcomed Annabelle into her house. Annabelle had brought a bottle of red wine and a picture book about a rainbow cat for Oscar. If Oscar wasn't already won over by Annabelle he sure was now.
