📍JEDDAH, SAUDI ARABIA
────────────────────────────────She couldn't help but think that he would have changed his tune if he had known how badly he fucked things up in the past, and how easily she admitted her forgiveness. As it stood, he was still in shock over what she had said. She could see him struggling to come to terms with what she told him. His mind was still spinning with everything he learned. He was still sitting on the edge of the bed, his hands clasped together tightly, staring straight ahead, refusing to look at her. For a brief moment she watched him as he processed everything she had revealed. She wondered what went through his mind while he did that. Probably nothing good.
When he finally gathered himself enough to move, she found herself holding her breath nervously. Once he had turned to look at her, however, she released it with a sigh of relief. She could tell how much her confession had affected him, and she didn't want to risk messing it up further by saying anything else.
He got up from the bed, walked slowly over to where she was standing, and then stopped beside her, not quite touching her yet. A part of her wished he would wrap his arms around her waist, but it was obvious that the idea of hugging her didn't appeal to him, given how his fingers were still tightly clasped together, forming two tight fists by his sides. "What are we doing exactly?" He asked softly. The corner of his mouth curved upward a little. He sounded amused, but also intrigued by whatever they were discussing.
She shrugged helplessly. "I honestly have no idea. I've just...been acting stupid. I shouldn't have come here."
"But you did. So..."
"So?" She echoed.
"You just admitted your feelings to me. Do you really think you can just leave now? Are you really going to run off into the night without a word after such a heartfelt apology? That won't be very nice, now will it?"
"I never meant to be nice," she argued indignantly. "That was my mistake, not yours. I'm sorry I made such a big deal out of this."
"I'm just wondering what our relationship will be like from now on," he murmured. His voice was low, but she caught every single word nonetheless.
"What?" Relationship? What is he implying?
He glanced sideways at her, smiling ruefully. "I'm asking you what sort of future you thought of for us. Would you rather stay friends or do you plan to give us a chance?"
"Stay friends? Let me remind you how you treated me in the last few years. We are not friends anymore. It ended there, and we both know it." She folded her arms across her chest, raising her eyebrows in his direction.
He exhaled sharply, nodding in agreement. "I'm aware. You have a point. You deserve better than I give you, however, and I will try harder to earn your trust."
