Disappointment. It was the first feeling that I felt once I came back. I never thought that I had to simply say that I wanted to leave in order to leave that house. But there were more things I wanted to see and learn there. I also wanted to ask Dino about his PA. I wanted to see that Jeonghan guy and find out my PA. Most importantly I felt like I had friends.
Due to the fact that I wanted to hide the fact that I was a hunter, I had to keep distant from my normal humans. So of course I never had any friends. Plus almost all the hunters have to take a test and work under the government unless they get caught. So even if I did see a hunter I would never know. Because we're both hiding our identities and telling that to even one person was dangerous.
But back there, I could freely talk about myself (even if I didn't) and I wanted to make some friends before leaving. I heaved out a sigh. This way or another regretting my choices wasn't going to make any changes. I changed my way back to my house. I went in and saw Taehyun sitting beside our table that divided the living room and our kitchen.
Moving more in, I could see his favorite hyung Jeonhan- Jeonghan? The person Mingyu said that was going to be my mentor? I looked back at him and he gave me a warm smile. The smile was warm but it also hit me that he already knew all of the events that happened to me. After knowing who he really was, I couldn't have him beside my brother.
I walked toward him and pulled his arms and stormed out of the house. "Whoa, where are you taking me to? At least tell me that." I didn't reply. Once we arrived on the dark street where no one went, I turned and glared at him. "Who are you and why are you with Taehyun?" My voice was filled with anger. I did not want him to put Taehyun to danger.
He gave me a casual shrug and leaned against the wall. The sun was setting and the street lamps were starting to light up one by one. Under one of the lights, Jeonghan's facials were easier to see. I lost words as I inspected his face.
His blond hair, his round nose, his cute lips that held a slight smile full of mischief, and lastly his eyes. His eyes were sparkling and he seemed like he was trying to guess my next move. "Go ahead. Stare all you want but I'm just saying pictures last longer."
With that, every single positive feeling that I had felt for him disappeared with a puff. "Just answer my question!" I said but my cheeks were slightly heating up from embarrassment. "I think that's for another time." He said with a chuckle and ruffled my hair as he got off the wall. His gaze was fixed on a spot behind me and I turned around... to see a werewolf.
Werewolves are normally S-ranked monsters. The ranking system goes from : F,D,C,B,A,S,L. F-ranked monsters can be handled with a very low leveled hunter. Going up most are hunted in groups. Starting from A, high leveled hunters are needed to hunt one monster. Till S, with a lot of hunters, you can manage. Around 100 hunters would be needed at all high levels but they weren't impossible. Now Legendaries... if you see them, you run.
But this particular werewolf is the Lycan. He is ranked as one of the most powerful monsters out of the Legendaries. It was just not possible for two normal-rated hunters to hunt him. I pulled Jeonghan's sleeves trying to tell him to run but he simply summoned a gun. I wanted to scream at him. One gun was not enough to kill a werewolf let alone the Lycon.
Jeonghan seemed so calm as he signaled me to summon a knife. I didn't want to. A knife and a gun were going to lead to our deaths! Even a machine gun would go bouncing off Lycon's hard skin. But he seemed so calm and sure of his plan (whatever that was) I decided to trust him for now.
I would love to explain how the fight went but I can't explain it in words. But I'll try my best. First Lycon attacked us which was too fast for my eyes to comprehend. Somehow Jeonghan managed to dodge its attack and tackle me to safety while shooting three clean shots straight to its eyes all at once.
I wanted to say that I recovered quickly and fought back but I was on the floor the whole fight occasionally summoning up the courage to stab Lycon whenever he got too close to my comfort. Jeonghan did all the work. His moves were smooth as he easily dodged and shot more and more bullets to the chinks to its steely skin. After a long fight, he managed to kill the beast.
Two good things about a hunt. The monsters turn blue and have a holographic figure before fading out completely without leaving any blood or any trace of it. The other good thing is that from hunting monsters, we, hunters, can earn good things such as ingredients for a weapon or stat points, fully made weapons (though they're really rare), and precious potion ingredients that can be sold for a lot of money.
The higher levels of monsters you hunt, the better rewards you get. That's basic information though. Jeonghan checked the rewards while I used some potions to heal my ankle Jeonghan tackled me a bit too hard and my ankle broke. But that was easily fixed with a healing potion. getting up and testing my newly fixed ankle, I moved next to Jeonghan. As I crouched beside him, I saw that his lower abdomen was bleeding badly from the fight with Lycon.
"You okay?" I asked him worriedly but he waved off the question. "Would you like its teeth's dagger or its leather cape?" I looked at him in disbelief. "I didn't do anything except stab it uselessly and you're offering me one of its best items?" "Well, I'm not giving it for free. I want you to join us." He replied taking his eyes off the reward panel.
"Why do you need me? You can kill a legendary by yourself. I'm useless." I mumbled the last part. "You're feeding Taehyun a potion right?" I nodded. "We have a member in our group that can alter a person's connection to the game. Works on any normal person as long as they're not a hunter." He said taking out a healing potion from the reward list and healing himself with it.
"And how does that help me?" I asked not understanding where this was going. "You know the monsters find the so-called scent because of its connection to the game. But if Taehyun just loses his connection, the monsters will have no scent to track." I thought about it for a while before fully understanding him. "Then Taehyun will be safe right?" I asked.
"Yes," Jeonghan replied shortly stretching his arms. "But you still didn't answer my other question. Why do you want me in your group?" "We need a person to hold us together. We're going through a hard time and we need someone from the outside to keep us together. Plus I would never let an SP hunter just go."
He offered me a hand. "What are SP hunters?" I asked him hesitating to take his hand. "Hunters with a special ability shop. We just call it SP. Special Power. The special ability comes out randomly and you can only buy one." He explained gently taking hold of my hand.
I searched deep into his eyes to see if he was lying but with that twinkle, I couldn't start too long. I held his hand. "If you agree to help me, I will join you." He gave me a charming and cute eye smile. "That's what I was proposing." He ruffled my hair before taking me back to my house. He stopped in front of my house's door. "I'll come to take you to our house and your new house tomorrow. You're going to live with us."
I nodded wordlessly. "Will I get to see Taehyun again?" He shrugged "As long as you don't die." He replied shortly. I sighed. "Promise me that he would be safe. He nodded. "I promise." Taking one last glance at my house I turned to Jeonghan. He gave me a reassuring smile and pulled me close. Leaning over, he left a soft peck on my forehead. "Goodnight." He mumbled softly.
And with that, I blacked out.
