Tom is magically better bc fanfic logic yk yaa

MATT

I woke up and felt a slight hunger poking at my stomach. I had no idea what time it was, I had no clocks in my room. Why would I? They would get rid of the room for my mirrors. Anyway, I sit up and go to my closet, opening it. I pulled out my work uniform, to be honest, I didn't like it, and, well, money was useless now, but there was no denying that I was happy being with my friends. So, I guess it's okay that it's ugly.

I finished changing and headed to the cafeteria. It was a simple but good breakfast. Hashbrowns, fresh, well, as fresh as they can be in this situation, mangos, a strawberry pastry. We only get those twice a week, mind you, and bacon, for protein and milk, coffee, and juice. I was never in the military, but I would say that this is a good breakfast, but, shouldn't soldiers get something better? I mean, that's what people told me when the war first started. "Soldiers have really nice food,"

Either way, I sat down by Edd. Tom and Tord didn't come today, unlike when Tom was sick. I don't know why, but Edd also mentioned it.

"No TnT?" He asked. "Mhm, I don't know why, however. We should go ask! Tord also has that full-body mirror!" I answered quickly. Edd just softly smiled at me, and we both ate. We throw out our plates, it would be weird for us to just... show up to Tord's office, but we do it every working day to clock in.

We make it down the long, repetitive halls, to Tord's office. I place a soft knock on his door and he replies with a soft hum. I turn the handle and enter his office, Edd not far behind. "Hey, Tord! You didn't come to breakfast, are you okay? Oh, my god... are you sick, too?" I ask, horror slowly filling my voice as I back up. I can't get my gorgeous face all red with this... Weird fever. I only notice the quiet tune of a guy singing,

Tom was sitting on a chair, headphones on, completely absorbed in whatever he was working on. The same mischievous grin that I remembered from high school played on his lips as he tapped away on his keyboard. Tord looked up from his desk, a knowing smirk on his face.

"Nah, not sick," Tord replied, gesturing to Tom. "Just caught up in a new project. Working on something big, right Tom?"

Tom shook off his tiredness, his digital eyes meeting mine. A playful smile crossed his face. "Hey, Matt! Yeah, Tord's got us diving into a new sort of radium. Sorry, we missed breakfast."

Edd chuckled, "Well, we were just worried you caught Tom's bug. Anyway, we'll let you get back to your creative genius work." Edd said with a roll of his eyes, obviously he was just teasing, though.

Tord nodded, and as we left the office, I couldn't help but feel a sense of camaraderie. Despite the oddities of our post-war world, our friendship remained intact. As we headed back down the familiar hallways, Edd turned to me.

"So, no mirror gossip today, but at least they're not sick. Let's grab some coffee before heading to work, yeah?"

All I did was nod before we walked back to the cafeteria, today was going to be long. Me and Edd worked in the same section. We would sort things from right and wrong and make those calibration quizzes.

We continued our routine, finding comfort in the routines that had developed in this new reality. The echoes of the past mixed with the uncertainties of the present, creating a unique tapestry of friendship and resilience that we wove together every day.

But, also echoes of the hundreds of thousands of soldiers that live within the base. The sound is almost comforting because of the almost systematic times they start and stop. It's like a schedule for them. They know to be in bed by 22:00, but also to be silent when Tord asks for their attention. If they didn't know that, we would be in shambles. If they didn't stop to listen to Tord, then they wouldn't know if there was a threat.

They also know that if they stop training, helping, and producing then there would be a halt in our efforts and efficiency. If no one is training their limits during battle, how will they ever get better? If no one helps the injured how will they survive? If no one produces weapons, how will we fight? All this is extremely important when ruling almost all the world.

There's only 2 countries that are yet to be taken over.  Chad and America; in Chad, no one in the army can translate for them, even though I'm almost positive Tom can translate for us, he's literally from there and knows a lot of languages, but I digress. In America they have strong opinions and an even stronger pride. They won't go down without a fight.

Of course, we could just force such a small country like Chad into submission, but we don't want them to form a rebellion. There are still some people from Edd and I's rebellion who refused to have someone rule over them again. We don't need more people against us. So we will still reason with them.

Tord won't let Tom out of the country, not that he wants to anyway. Tord says Tom is too important to him to just effortlessly send him to a random country without a shit ton of protection. Tord also claims that there is no bodyguard as strong as Tom, so there's even more reason to not let him out of the country.

I'm sure Tord would nuke a country for Tom. That's just how much he loves him, even if it would hurt innocent people, he would do it.
